Pictures speak more than a thousand words. So lets start with the engadget photo gallery (http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/02/08/windows-mobile-6-standard-in-pictures/) of Windows Mobile 6 Standard, for those who are tuning in (really) late Standard is the new name for the Smartphone edition of Windows Mobile. What I love about the above screen shot is that it shows the new Windows Mobile Update functionality in action; you can see that Windows Mobile is prompting the user that it is about to update itself to a newer release of Windows Mobile. 8) <!>

Read about Sumner Lemon's hands on experience in this article "A first look at Windows Mobile 6." (http://www.infoworld.com/article/07/02/09/HNwinmobile6_1.html)

Modern Nomads have written up a nice review on the Professional version, (http://www.modernnomads.info/articles/read.php?article_id=15) a.k.a. the Pocket PC edition, but most of the information presented in the article is relevant for us Smartphone users, I mean future Windows Mobile 6 Standard users.

Jason Langridge is telling us "What's New and What's Cool?" (http://blogs.msdn.com/jasonlan/archive/2007/02/08/windows-mobile-6-what-s-new-and-what-s-cool.aspx) in his blog post. Jason is also pointing out that there is a Webcast on Tuesday 13th Feb at 9:00 AM (http://blogs.msdn.com/jasonlan/archive/2007/02/08/windows-mobile-6-partner-webcast.aspx) Pacific Time. Don't miss it if you want to see the new features first hand.

PC World is talking about "Windows Mobile 6 Taps New Exchange Features" (http://news.yahoo.com/s/pcworld/20070208/tc_pcworld/128848) in its article.

Peter Foot is talking about what is in "Windows Mobile 6 for Developers." (http://www.peterfoot.net/WindowsMobile6ForDevelopers.aspx) If you are developer then this is a must read. I am happy to see that SQL Server CE included in the ROM. Isn't SQL Server CE supposed to be called SQL Server Anywhere or something. :?

Finally, the thing that everyone wants to know, which carrier will get the Windows Mobile 6 devices first and when? And will T-Mobile be offering an update to Windows Mobile 6 to the existing Dash users. Read about it over here. (http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/02/08/microsoft-says-wm6-coming-to-t-mobile-in-q2/)

Happy reading! :) As always we are eagerly waiting to hear from you what your thoughts are.

What I love is that they show a Excalibur/Dash/620. Does that mean that it was upgraded from WM5 to WM6? Is there a chance my current Dash will be able to go to WM6? Please?

One thing is sure - WM6 does not need new hardware to run.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for the possible update. This could be the reason why Cavalier has been shelved.

I don't have access to corporate features - I'm self employed and work from home most of the time, so no need for Exchange Server features.

I'm most excited by the new auto update feature and the internet connection sharing. Improved remote connection sounds good too, but I'd need it about twice a year ;-)

I heard about a proposed 'home server' edition of Vista. If it adds some sort of Exchange Server capability then maybe I'll take another look ...

One of the features that is being talked about is the smartfilter that was added to both messaging and WMP. Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't WM5 already have that feature on WMP? I just tried with my s620 and it worked find searching for songs..

You are right about it. I tried the WMP SmartFilter on my Dash just now. Must be a WM5 AKU 3.0 feature. Just like the Internet Sharing utility.

As far as I know the Home Server is based on Windows Server 2003. It acts as a file server and backup server. I will dig up a link when I get home.

It is you are right. I found a link to a sign-up for beta testing it a couple of days a go .... <searching frantically> http://connect.microsoft.com/WindowsHomeServer.

No Exchange server though. They seem to be saying that you should upgrade to a business server for that. Not completely (financially) palletable for a small business (2 employees) like mine!

Check out this video. http://channel9.msdn.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=270965 Interesting. Basically .. it's a full Win 2003 server, so if you are a tecchie you can make good use of that. If you are a numptie, the full server is sort of hidden, so you can just use the file sharing and stuff as a 'consumer' rather than a network admin.

So here's a full-on review of Beta 2
