A very handy application to have available at your disposal. :)

Doesn't Smartphone already sync with your wireless provider? :? I just compared my Smartphone with my PC and the times match up exactly to the second.

Some do, I don't think mine do with Cingular. They will sync with the PC clock on the rare occasions I actually do that. This is a cool little utility to have.

yeah, your phone will sync its time to your laptop/pc when you sync them (at least mine does), i can see this being very handy for someone who only syncs with a hosted exchange server :)

Afaik cdma carriers do time sync; gsm carriers don't.

The BlackJack will sync time with the carriers towers - but that doesn't mean the cell tower is reporting the correct time. I had lots of problems with my carrier reporting the wrong time zone to my device and I was missing all sorts of events. (thread found here (http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=13145))

This app is something that I would love to have on my device.

Afaik cdma carriers do time sync; gsm carriers don't. Don't think the second half of that is true. My T-Mobile and Cingular phones have both sync'd time and time zone, but not everywhere. Seems it depends a bit on the local equipment. Used to travel to the west coast and the time and zone changed. Didn't change back when I got home though. My Wife's Razr even has a setting to get network time or not.

I am somewhat pleased that my PPCPE and SPs do not do this, especially the TZ part, because you know what happens to your appointments when you shift TZs. Don't want that happening automatically the way I work. Not sure if some don't have the option. Think the Smartflip (3125) does.

"SmartTimeSync lets you adjust your Smartphone's clock with biggest possible precision - thanks to NTP Internet protocol and Atomic Time."

Shouldn't that be the smallest possible precision? ;-)

Shouldn't it be "greatest" possible precision? ;)

I think you win the contest on that one. :)

Yeah... we could use a Sultan of Swag over here too.

Getting back on topic...

1. This program requires the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 version. If you don't already have it installed, it requires a fair bit of device memory, even when installed to the storage card.

2. It does effectively synchronize your time to the selected time service. I'm a nut about "perfect time" and almost all of my devices are either synched to the service either through software (as in the case of PC's) or over the air (alarm clocks, wall clocks, watches, etc.). Yes I know, I have severe OCD but that my friends is a subject for another day.

3. It does not automatically synchronize time. That is, you must launch the application and request that it synchronize the time. A much more effective solution would be for it to run in the background and automatically synchronize time on a nightly basis.

4. I have a Blackjack and had to turn off the setting to automatically update the clock. I've noticed that my local towers are off by as much as 5 minutes (and on occassion even more), so this is no big loss.

Does anyone know of another application out there that accomplishes this task in the background?

HI,

Try this new version :

http://misterangus.chez-alice.fr/Cab/SmartTimeSync1.1.CAB

for wm2003 and wm2005

you can use SmartTimeSync in quiet mod by adding /q parameter

I tried the new version, but it seems to have a much smaller list of time servers from which to choose from. Most notably, the US servers are all gone.

How do you use the /q parameter? Do I create a shortcut and add the /q to it then drop it into the startup folder in the Windows directory? What is the expected behavior with the /q modifier, will it periodically update the time on its own?

Thanks in advance...

Hi,

You can had time servers in the servers.txt files in the directory of SmartTimeSync.
To use the /q parameter, create a shorcut like this :

51#"\Program Files\SmartTimeSync\SmartTimeSync.exe" /q

the /q parameter don't periodically update the time, it just synchronise the time and then exit ...
