The year 2006 is now over. OK I know you know that. We want to know what you think the best software application was in 2006. It doesn't have to be brand new. An update that made a good application the best is OK too. I already have my choice but I won't reveal it yet. So give it some thought and post it here. If you have one in mind and have not purchased it yet, now is the time! <a href="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/index.php?action=expand,13261">Head on over here</a> and your purchase will do some good!

This is such a hard thing to pick just one application. There have been so many cool and amazingly helpful applications released in the last year. I'm just browsing through my application folder and I see things like:

- BetaPlayer (or whatever the final release is called CoreSomething),
- eWallet 5 (which has a much improved sync),
- MoDaCo's LED Off app (for everyone with an HTC phone that hates those flashing lights),
- Sprite Backup,
- maniac's AutoKeyLock,
- Photo Contacts Pro,
- MSFP ( I guess this would qualify as new in 2006 and it's a pretty cool addition)

but most of all, I think it's gotta be SlingPlayer Mobile. I'm pretty hooked on this, and it never fails to amaze people when I show off my Smartphone.

Last year the program I was most jazzed about was Bankarama (http://www.bankarama.com/). It was short, simple and to the point. I love that about most Smartphone programs :)

Facade

I believe Facade was launched last year. I like how it extends the home screen.

The second is One Note Mobile.

Man, that Windows Live app is unbelieveable. No more directory assistance charges, I get all the info I need and a bag of chips with that app.

I'd have to second the vote for Facade - no other app has had such a big impact on the way I use my phone.

I know you were asking about apps, but for me the biggest change last year was getting unlimiteded GPRS for £7.50/month ($15 US approx). Long, long overdue here in the UK.

What is the Windows Live app and how can I get it?

Thanks!

It's mapping, driving directions, traffic, and local search for WM. It works a lot like google maps mobile, but (at least on my T-Mobile SDA) the traffic and satellite views actually work.

AgendaOne - in my opinion the best organizer software out there for WM5. Now if Agendus ports over, than I'll have a new nominee for next year!

The second is One Note Mobile.

Oh man, how could I forget OneNote Mobile! I use it everyday for all sorts of things - simply great. 8)

Windows Live Mobile is still officially a beta. Maybe we have already seen the winner in 2008?

I vote for SlingPlayer.

I love the Windows Live Moving Map options when paired with a Bluetooth GPS receiver. That combination is just plain slick.

I have to vote for:

1. Agenda One - Its a great package, lots of features, nice to use, and the over the air updates is fantastic.

2. Gentimer is a great alarm and timer package.

3. Laridian Bible Software is a must have for me.

Is this for new apps in 2006 or all time?

All time favs most of which were new or had new releases for 2006:

X-Bar 3.2
Facade
NewsBreak
E-Wallet 5.0
Resco Explorer
Agenda One
Windows Live Search Beta (Beta or not, still worth a mention)

I must be the only guy that sees no use for this application. Perhaps doing therapy doesn't require multiple alarms. I suppose I could use it to time my sessions but looking at the clock seems to work just fine.

I think I just did a rant? Who does that remind you of? :P

It's invaluable to people with the Dash/S620 who have the phantom alarm problem (any alarm set in the past continues to go off at the set time even though the alarm's been turned off).

In addition, Gentimer has a cool feature (Sleepyhead alarm) where the alarm will continue to repeat until you type in a randomly generated code that's displayed on the screen.

My choice is Newsbreak from Ilium.

A great, simple to use, simple to configure RSS reader for the Smartphone.

Thanks evreyone for the input - Bankarama looks super...

What is Facade?

Thanks,

The Rat

Is Facade the same type of program as Battery Pack Pro or are they complementary? Also, what is the difference between PDATuner Pro (TV?Radio) and Coreplayer?

- MoDaCo's LED Off app (for everyone with an HTC phone that hates those flashing lights),

Do you have a link to this app? I searched MoDaCo and could not find it in the downloads section.

Thanks,

Chris

Read through this thread (http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=243948) and you should find it. 8)
