All of the features that have been in eWallet since the 3.x days are still there: complete customization of wallet cards, custom categories, and 256-bit encryption. What has been added though in 5.0 takes the application to a wholly new functionality and usability level. With 5.0 you can sync to virtually any type of device and media type: USB cards, your PC, other PCs on your network and remote locations via FTP. Further, that synchronization process has been completely overhauled, making synchronization more reliable and faster. Top it off with an new easy-to-follow companion tool and a completely new icon set and easier customization of those icons and you come to appreciate how far this application has come along. If you are a user of eWallet already then 5.0 will prove to be a worthy upgrade. If you are new to eWallet now is the time to get it!"</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20061219-eWalletCFReview.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br />In case you missed the announcement; Ilium has released version 5 of eWallet. Clinton Fitch has posted a review of the latest version. I've been using it from the private beta and it's a great update. Clinton's review is focused on the Pocket PC, but that doesn't change the look or any of the new sync features. Check it out and let us know your thoughts.

I've got it and it is great! The new sync feature is just what was needed especially for multiple device geeks like me.

So does the 'sync with FTP server' feature require the device to be connected to a PC via ActiveSync (or SyncPro or whatever)?

I thought this looked like a real killer feature for me, as a way of keeping a secure copy of a wallet file while 'on the road', but if it only works while you're hooked up to a PC then I'm not sure what the point is. :confused totally:

The sync with FTP server is only for the desktop version of the application with the idea of providing you an "off site" location for your wallet. If you have a FTP application on your mobile device (Resco Explorer for example) you could download/upload the wallet to your device or FTP server.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the great comments everyone!

Regarding updated access on the road, while you can't sync from your phone to the FTP site (you have to go through the desktop version) you CAN access a file you've synched offline in the fashion Clinton offered.

The other way (and the way I do it) is with a service like FilesAnywhere (we like FA but use the one you like best) which offers a web access client that you can hit from PIE. You could do something like this...

1. Have a person at the office/home make changes to a wallet on a PC.
2. They sync that PC to the remote location.
3. You access the updated wallet file via a PIE web interface and download it to your phone.
4. You now have an updated version of the file.

Just an idea that might help!
