Hi there> My name is Jen and I am having some problems with my phone and was wondering if anyone knew how to help me. I have a dash phone with cingular network. I don'y know much about Java. I have no idea if it's here and I can enable it, or if it's not here at all. I have no clue if my setting are correct or not. I can use the internet, but I have trouble opening files in yahoo, viewing attachments, and have no idea if this is because of java. If someone know a little more about this, I would so appreciate the help. I am clueless. thanks again jen

why do you think these problems are related to Java? did you install a Java client for Yahoo? (I don't have the Dash, and I don't use Yahoo, so it my be an obvious question for some, but I truely don't know)
what type of file are your trying to open? What error are you getting?

Jen, would like to know a bit more about what you are trying to do. I believe you are trying to access Yahoo mail. Is that correct?
How are you connecting to Yahoo? I mean what are the steps you carry out on your Smartphone - like do you click on Start->Messaging->and select a Yahoo mail box or do you click Start->Applications->Java and then some Yahoo program or do you use the Internet Explorer on your phone?
Please tell us the steps to reproduce the problem and also as Mike mentioned the error message that you get.

hi there. The first time I started up hotmail, it said something like "make sure java is turned on, and is not blocking" Something like that, but now it takes me to a funny looking hotmail, but it atleast works. In yahoo I start up explorer and go to yahoo.com, and sometimes when I open something it says "the requested page cannot be displayed." And I have no idea why. Usually it has an attachement with it.
My only other question is should I download anything to it to make it function any better? Is there something you may have downloaded that makes anything better on it? I saw some people download something called opera mobile? or mini? and it looked neat, but wasn't sure if it was functional. Anyhow, thanks for any help you can provide. Jen

I believe you are using Internet Explorer to check both Yahoo and Hotmail.
[Opera's regular browser is not available for T-Mobile Dash or Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone. Opera Mini is available but personally I think it is annoying to use because it runs inside the Java client]
#1.
Regarding the Yahoo email access problem, I haven't noticed any problem. I don't use Yahoo email but just tried it out. Even for emails with attachment, I didnt see any problems. After launching Internet Explorer, can you click on the Menu->Tools->Options->Connections. And tell us the settings you see there.
#2.
The best way to check Hotmail is to use the Messaging application. Start menu->Messaging->New Account, for the email provider select Hotmail from the list, follow thru the prompts. It will create a mailbox for Hotmail in the Messaging folder.
Hope this helps...

I've been using Opera for Windows smartphone 2003 on my T-Mobile Dash and it works perfectly. I downloaded the version for the T-Mobile SDA II
http://www.opera.com/download/mobile/?man=Windows+Mobile&ver=8.00&heading=T-Mobile%20SDA%20II&img=/img/products/mobile/tmobile_sda_ii.gif&extra=This%20version%20can%20also%20be%20used%20with%20other%20phones%20running%20Smartphone%202003.&opt=All%20Devices
I know it's not officially supported, but it does work on my Dash.

thanks all. I did the hotmail shortcut, and it worked great. After going to explorer, my settings are- aut. detect settings unchecked, and it says wap network. I have no clue if this is right, or if I should check elsewhere on th ephone to make sure my settings are correct. My internet works fine, but am not sure if there is some sort of internal setting that has to be changed on anything. Well, thanks for the replies and the help. Jen

Auto detect setting should be checked. That usually gives you the best performance. And the box below that should say The Internet.

Give it a try with the new settings and let us know.
The second one can be The Internet or the WAP Network. So as long as it is either of the two it will work. The usual out of the box setting is The WAP Network. I usually prefer The Internet. I don't think it makes any difference, the both land up in the same place at least in case of Cingular.
But it pays to have the Automatically detect setting checked.
