Oh, RIM, we understand that you want to protect your trademark over the BlackBerry name. But do you really, honestly, believe that just because another smartphone has the name "Black" in it, that throngs of people will rush out to buy the BlackJack when they meant to buy the BlackBerry?"</i><br /><br /> You just can't make this stuff up. It smells of a desperate move to me.

I never had any respect for RIM but I must say, I never ever made any association in my head with the two names. It never occurred to me. This makes me want to go and buy 2 more BlackJacks. I hope RIM gets embarrassed (they should be already, the Blackberry is junk) by this and gets buried in court. It is a pathetic and as Mike writes, desperate thing to do.

Oh wow, I now have no respect for Blackberry either...this is just sign pointing to the end of RIM as a company. I hadn't even made the connection in my mind that the Blackjack and Blackberry are named similarly until I read this.

What a joke! I never associated the two in my mind. This is just RIM trying to get back some money that it lost. I'm glad I never went with a Blackberry device.

Let's SPAM and SPIM them from our BlackJacks!

I'd never associated the two names either.

I would have thought RIM would not want us to - the comparison doesn't look too good for them. So why draw attention to the (supposed) name-link?

i wonder if they will sue jewelry makers next for selling pearls or anyone that lives at an address that has the numbers 7100, 8700 or 7130 in it... or even my local supermarket for selling blackberries. sheesh

Could have never thought of RIM doing something like this.

Could have never thought of RIM doing something like this.

They obviously have no new product ideas. This is the best they can do. Turn the lawyers loose.

This just in...

Motorola sues RIM because Pearl sounds too much like Pebble.

And also just in...

RIM is being sued for royalties by EPIC Records because BlackBerry Pearl is too similar to Pearl Jam, both of which can play tunes originally composed and performed by the latter (but neither taste good on bread).

seems really underhanded and cheap to me. rim should just improve their devices instead of doing lame stuff like this.

I guess Apple will need to be prepared for a suit then if they ever make a phone. Could be confusing. "I don't know what it's called, but I want that fruit phone."

Is it too late for HP (Compaq) to sue Apple over the iPod name being confusing with iPaq, the iPaq even played video way before the iPod did.
