Hi All

The BBC does video podcasts in MP4 format. I would like to watch them on my Vodaphone 1240v (HTC Tornado).

Media player wont play the format.

TCPMP complains about MPEG4-AAC audio decoder not being included.

Coreplayer does not have a trial version to test if it works?

Anyone able to help?

Thanks

Try downloading the ffmpeg codec for TCPMP.

Did you confirm that TCPMP and FFMPEG work well with the BBC video podcast? There are two types of video encoding called "MPEG4" called "Part 2" and "Part 10".

FFMPEG plays both Part 2 video and Part 10 video, but plays Part 10 (also called H.264) slowly and choppy.

Here's more information about TCPMP with FFMPEG: http://feederreader.pocketcasting.com/viewtopic.php?p=2917#2917

And here's more information about MPEG4: http://mobilesmith.blogspot.com/2006/08/mpeg4-overview.html

It is my understanding that CorePlayer plays H.264 better than FFMPEG, but I have not tested this yet.

If you point me to the BBC podcast URL that you are asking about, I'll load it up in FeederReader and see if it plays with TCPMP and what "part" mp4 it is.

TCPMP uses the CoreASP video decoder and the MPEG4 AAC Audio decoder to play these BBC videos and lists the video as "MPEG-4 Video" which I believe refers to MPEG4 Part 2 video. (MPEG4 Part 10 video is often referred to as AVC or H.264.)

I would expect that CorePlayer should play this video as well.

This 320x240, 25fps, 377 kilobits per second video plays back fine on my 195MHz imate SP5M using TCPMP and the AAC codec.

(and it downloads great using FeederReader! :-) )
