Really! You'll have to sit through three Microsoft webcasts or virtual labs on the products, but that's a small price to pay considering you'll actually learn about the software features. There are some relatively minor restrictions, however this is an offer you just can't refuse. These packages can cost you upwards of $300 or more out-of-pocket, so I'd consider this time well spent."</i><br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Jerry-powertogether.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br />Now you can't say anymore Microsoft never gave you anything! It might be worth the price of admission so if you are interested, go check it out.

Ready the entire blog. It seems this may be an identity theft scam. I checked the site and some of the buttons don't even work.

Yeah this is kind of fishy. Especially with regard to this apparent response to a query to Microsoft:

"Thank you for contacting Microsoft Online Customer Service.

I understand that you would like to know whether powertogether offers Windows Vista and Office 2007 for free. I realize the importance of your issue and appreciate the information that you have provided.

In all likelihood, this software available at Powertogether website is pirated. If you would like to get more information about piracy, we do have a piracy support website that provides information about this serious issue. You can visit this web site at:
http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/ReportingUs.mspx

We also have a piracy Hotline, which you can reach at 1-800-785-3448 or write to:
[email protected]

I hope the above information is helpful.

Thank you for using Microsoft products and services.

Anuradha
Microsoft Online Customer Service Representative"

That and asking for tax information is a bit over the top.

I just pinged a contact from the Windows Vista team, and they tell me that it is legit. So no worries. You can read some details about it from Nick over here (http://windowsvistablog.com/blogs/windowsvista/archive/2006/11/28/countdown-gadget-now-appearing-live-on-the-blog.aspx) - in the comments to the original post. Basically, the server is overloaded but they are working on expanding it. 8)

Do the virtual labs or webcasts cost money?

Cool offer (too bad it's not the MCE version of Vista), but the site is slow as molasses!

where does it say "sold out"? i've viewed 2 of the 3 presentations i supposedly need to (both completed ones say "pending" next to them instead of "view" now) and was planning to muscle through the 3rd one in a few mins (on mute and minimize ha). want to make sure i'm still good to go w/ this considering i signed up and began yesterday...

If you have registered prior to Thursday night, you will still get your free copy of Vista Business. I noticed it last night around 8pm CST that the Vista offer was "Sold Out".

Also, if you get both items you have to provide your SSN and complete a W-9 since the gifts total a value of over $600. Sounds like you have to pay the tax on that. But... a small tax payment for receiving over $800 worth of software, you really can't complain about that too much! We will, but it's still cheaper than retail and they are legit copies!

One of mine says Completed and has a big tick in it. The other two say Pending, even though I've watched them all the way through. I'm wondering if something is broke ... ?

To be eligible to receive Windows Vista Business, you must register at www.powertogether.com and participate in at least three (3) qualifying web casts and/or virtual lab sessions within 30 days of registration.

So according to the disclamer you have to do the virtual lab sessions within 30 days. I was halfway finishing the Vista labs.

"We’re sorry; there are no more gifts available."

OK they all say Complete now. What next? Sit and wait? Did I overlook something?

When I view my profile on this web site, I see the following text at the bottom of the My Stuff tab:-

Shipping Info
Congratulations! You’ve completed the number of Webcasts or vLabs required to receive a free, fully-licensed copy of Microsoft Office Professional 2007. Once we’ve confirmed that you meet the eligibility requirements stated in the offer details below we will ship your gift within 6-8 weeks of the release to manufacturing of Microsoft Office Professional 2007. While you’re waiting, why not check out additional Webcasts of vLabs to further your skills?

Has anyone got beyond this? Nothing and nobody appears to have contacted me to confirm that I "meet the eligibility requirements stated in the offer". Seems to me we are around 6 or 8 weeks after RTM ...

Comments? Manic laughter?
