T-Mobile Dash Wi-Fi Power save mode

The T-Mobile Dash has a power save mode for the Wi-fi. Options are best performance, best battery, and auto. Anyone know what each of the settings do? Does 'best battery' reduce the range? If so, will the 'auto' mode boost back up into best performance mode when needed? There is no documenation for this feature.
