One of my colleagues discovered that you can boost the battery life of the i320 by simply deactivating the IR port, which is always on 24/7 in the standard set-up out of the box. This should increase battery life by (approximately) 100%."</i><br /><br />Could it be true? Is there a chance that Jason Langridge has posted a secret to doubling your Samsung i320's battery life? Sorry to get everyone's hopes up because it's not true. I attempted this, and while I did notice a little more power in my battery at the end of the day, it's no where near double. If you're not using the IR port (does anyone use it anymore?) then I would suggest turning it off. There was a little more power at the end of the day, but not enough to bump this issue off the list of the i320. To turn off the IR port, press Start / Settings / Connections / Beam and uncheck the box.

I find it really bizarre that they'd make such a bold claim, a 100% battery boost, without verifying it. :?

Oh so that is how Dash has amazing battery life...it has no IR.

I am sure the Samsung test folks would have figured that out, instead of shipping the unit with an extra battery.

30% would be more realistic. But it definitely helps battery life I think.

the first thing i done was disable that when i got the phone... the battery life is still pretty damn bad either way...

But with some WM5 AKUs (if those apply to the Smartphone platform), doesn't turning off the IR port also disable some of the Bluetooth functionality? There was a discussion about this shortly after one of the Calgary PPC meetings; iirc Jason posted about it on PPCT.

You are right. It is the same setting.

I have it on my non-IR capable Dash. You are right I do remember it controlling some Bluetooth functionality.

Update: Here is the article that you were referring to.
