Combined are the powers of a cell phone and a PDA in one unit, letting you make calls, send e-mail, and work on documents without myriad gadgets; yet, these devices haven't exactly taken off. Why? Form factor may be one of the main reasons. To date, smart phones typically have been clunky and heavy, making them unattractive substitutes for your primary cell phone. However, things are looking up. Take these five smart phones, which are compact and pocketable yet don't sacrifice important features, such as wireless connectivity and PIM functionality. Read our reviews to see if one of these compact and light smart phones is right for you."</i><br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Kris-Nov2006-SexySP.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br />I agree with CNET Asia that Smartphones used to be bulky and the form-factor was not consumer friendly, but that has now changed. Check out this article by CNET Asia that is comparing five compact smart phones and included in the list is Dopod S300 aka HTC Star Trek.

There are certainly some great phones, but there's still a long way they could go, just using today's technology, to achieve true greatness IMHO. Next year's phones are going to start to really blow our socks off, but the next 5 years are going to be the most exciting.

It's a great time to be a technophile :-)

What is out now is so much better than just a year ago. Still I had to go with Room for Improvement. I suppose there always will be no matter where we are.

There's always going to be room for improvment. However, if things stalled where we are today, I would be pretty happy. Much more than a year ago for sure.

The only thing that really makes me unhappy are that the new devices aren't coming out fast enough. I've had my 2125 for a year now! It's ancient! I want more! :grinning devil:

I agree with that. That is why I voted yes.

There is definitely room for improvement, some major and some minor. But I think when it comes to the form factor I think we have very good options.

3125 as a flip phone is great.
2125 as the candy bar or the imate SPL as the candybar.
Q/Excalibur for folks who love texting.

There is a perfect form factor for everyone out there.

Yikes, I just noticed that they have 2 Windows Mobile Smartphones on the list. The Samsung and Dopod. The Samsung photo makes the unit look like a candybar. :?

Well, it is a candybar phone. It just looks a more narrow than usual on their picture. But its not that wide a phone.
