Now, compared to AUTD, Direct Push might appear to be more complicated, but how it works is really quite trivial if you have a good idea of how the Internet works. Even if you don’t, do try to follow-through my explanation as knowing how Direct Push communicates with Exchange will allow you to trouble-shoot so much more effectively."</i><br /><br />Speaking of Direct Push my previous post about it referenced this article which I think deserves separate attention. It is a nice and easy to understand explanation of how Direct Push works. The question at the end of the read is, is it really push? You decide and let us know what you think.

can someone tell me if Direct Push is the same as the "As Items Arrive" selection in ActiveSync?

If you are talking about the Q with the updated ROM yes.

It is odd on the Q there is really no indication. On every HTC device I have and have seen the Comm Manager indicates Push on or off specifically and independent of ActiveSync.

that's exactly why i was asking; on the Dash, you have the option to turn push on and off. since the Q doesn't have this feature, i wasn't sure if i was receiving emails via "push".

Before the update, if you chose that option it would ask you for the SMS address of the phone. It would have been nice if they had put some kind of indicator like every other phone in the universe!
