Hi,
I'm away from my desktop windows PC quite often and would like to know if any ideas to help me.
i'm looking for sofware for a smartphone to allow me to even import or export calendars and contacts etc as vcal, ical or even using a syncml server.

basically bypassing the need for activesync and being deskbound.
The best I have so far for mail is using my gmail account instead of outlook on the Pc and this is great.

Just contacts and calendars now......

thanks
Jeff

Are you using outlook now for your calendar and contacts? Which Smartphone do you have?

I use outlook for contacts but not for anything else. I dont see the need for alarms popping up anywhere other than with me, whereever me and my phone are.

I activsync for that and for installing software, copying ebooks etc, although more and more, this can be done 'on line'

I use a HTC s620 excalibur.

hope this helps.

Where I was going was that you can do what you want if you have an exchanger server doing your email etc. There are many hosted exchange services out there. It is what I use.

I haven't heard of any tools that would export your contacts on your phone. You could export them once you sync it back to Outlook. Not that I expect to be of any help. :?

Yes you can sync all of those. if you use a different calendar application it will use the same data so any application will work.

I use mailstreet. They aren't cheap ( around $22/mo ) but have been excellent with support issues and very reliable. They do Push as well. There are cheaper ones around but I haven't looked into them.

I think 4Smartphone.net is a fair amount cheaper than that.

Whomever you choose you will love having and Exchanger Server handle your email etc.
