The Smartphone world is abuzz with news about the Cingular 3125 being released - this is the HTC Str Trk with a new logo, although apparently it has 128 MB of RAM, double the 64 MB that my Qtek 8500 has. I bet the 3125 won't give memory errors like my phone does. Mobility Site has a first look video for you to check out, and some photo comparisons against the RAZR. No full review yet, though I know it's coming. There's also a short video review for you to check out. That should be enough to whet your appetite for a while - we'll have more news later from Rocco about availability, pricing, etc.Since the hardware is mostly the same, you can check out my review of the HTC Str Trk to see what I think of the phone.

Despite a bit of a hiccup on their website and the CSRs knowing nothing about the services available for the 3125, mine is ordered and on its way! :D

Finally, and with upgrades!!

Well, I can confirm that some stores have the new phone. After walking into two stores in San Francsico which did not have it, I called Cingular and they checked the stores in my zip code.

We did find one store which had the unit in stock (which I was already walking towards).

I am now the owner of the 3125! :)

Out the door the phone was $287 ($250 plus tax). I also have a $100 mail in rebate.

I've had a candy bar phone my entire life and I can already tell that this phone is going to take some getting used to.

Mobility Site & Bluetooth 2.0

This phone does NOT have Bluetooth 2.0 as stated several times on the Mbility Site video. :(

I rushed out to get the phone after watching the video all excited about using all the new Bluetooh stereo 2.0 headsets announced. Now that I got home I read some more about the phone - from the HTC America website and sure enough it's only a 1.2 device.

About the only differnce from what I can tell between the European models and this model is the 128MB ROM vs the older 64MB ROM.

How can you tell what Bluetooth stack is on the device? Are you just going by what it says on the HTC site? We all know they have a track record for screwing up the specs.

i know how you feel Jerry... if i find myself with an extra (or unassigned, unallocated) $300-$400, the first thing i do is think about the next phone i wanna buy. i caved in and got the Samsung i320 and now i'm thinking i can use wifey's corp discount to add this to my collection. or should i wait for the HTC Libra???? what to do, what to do!!

I spoke with my Cingular contact after this finding by j.freiman and he is correct, the pre-release marketing literature I received has a typo.

I am sorry about this...

Hey Chris, thanks for looking into this. Why are so many places getting the specs wrong now-a-day? :(
