It's ideal for your everyday personal use and great for your day-to-day business needs."</i><br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20060907-HTCs310.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br />The HTC Oxygen has a new official name - the HTC S310. This slim candy-bar Smartphone will have MSFP, Quad-band EDGE/GPRS, 64MB ROM, 64MB RAM, Bluetooth 2 with wireless stereo, 1.3 mega-pixel camera, miniSD, a 2 inch screen, HTC's ExtUSB connector. It measures in at 108mm (L) x 47mm (W) x 18.5mm (T). There's no word on the battery power or the processor inside this device. There also no mention of the screen, but it's my understanding that it's not a QVGA device. In case you haven't noticed in the picture above, this device is available in two different colours, Black and White. I'm happy to see that HTC has added colour choice to some of their devices. I just wish it was something more than white. ;) This device is aimed more at the entry level, and hopefully it should help get Windows Mobile devices into more hands. :D

Can the Smartphones run Pocket PC software (PocketBible, Pocket Informant, that's about all I use nowadays)?

I'm really tempted to get one of these and ditch the Pocket PC.

There are smartphone versions of those apps. You might have to re-buy them depending on the developers license.

Are there any shots comparing these to the size of these to other phones/Pocket PC's? Any pricing info yet?

If you email the vendor of the PPC software you have purchased and let them know you are switching to a smartphone device, they may give you a discount fo their software to cross platforms. This hasn't always happened with me but it helped with a few programs.

I just checked on Pocket Informant, and it looks like there's a 50% discount to Pocket PC owners.

Didn't see a discount on PocketBible though.

Try emailing Laridian. I can't remember if I got a discount for my Pocket bible or if I just had to purchase it outright. I sure like it though.

Laridian makes it easier for users changing platforms

April 21, 2006 - Laridian today announced modifications to their End User License Agreement (EULA) that benefit users who change devices moving to a platform that differs from their original Laridian purchase (i.e. Pocket PC to Windows Mobile Smartphone). If a user has purchased content for a particular platform, Laridian now allows the user to download that content for any other platform for which the same product is available, at no additional charge.

Oh rad!

I also remembered I use Flexwallet quite a bit and they have a Smartphone version. So I think I'm set to get a smartphone. :D

What is an ENTRY LEVEL Smartphone anyway? This has everything my current Smartphone has...with the exception of QVGA is that part prooves true. And it has more memory than my SP5m!!!

If entry-level means cheaper...Why am I paying $400-$600 for phones that aren't marked as entry level??

I'm guessing that the money saved by not putting a QVGA screen into the phone will help reduce the over all cost of a subsidized device. If the phone can fall into the $50-$100 range after carrier discounts but before rebates.

Now that I think about it, early talk on this phone had it with less memory than todays devices. Didn't it?

If it's not QVGA, what resolution would it be???

I just went over and played with the Cingular 2125, it's great, but I can't stand the bulge at the top and the little joystick isn't the easiest to use. Plus it doesn't have expandable memory and the color scheme isn't the sharpest.

I'll be extremely interested in the S310 when it comes out (please T-Mobile carry this phone!). :)

Same as the older SMT5600, MPx220, MPx200, SP3i, etc... 177x220

It takes a miniSD card!

That is a cool looking phone I think.

Oh yeah you're right! That's strange, I didn't see any mention of it on the sign by the phone and I didn't see a slot anywhere, so I assumed there wasn't one.

One problem I just discovered after playing with the Q is that supposedly it can't edit Word or Excel files but can view them, is that true? Can Pocket Word/Excel be user-installed?

No it can't. The mobile versions of Word and Excel are not compatible with the Smartphone. You have to get a third party solution for this. So far, they are all just viewers.

Just answered my own question by searching the Motorola Q forums...no Pocket Office available for it. That's a HORRIBLE decision by Motorola (or Microsoft).

Do any of the Smartphones come with Pocket Office?

Currently, there is mobile version of Office for the Smartphone. We've heard talk of it, and a couple mistaken announcements, but it has yet to be released.

Not sure if Clearvue Office Suite counts, but it will most definitely be bundled with all HTC smartphones for the coming few models. I wouldn't say it's the most functional way of accessing and editing Office files, but it does just fine in a pinch..

Those are some of the viewers Mike was mentioning. You can't edit or create with them.
