<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://msmobiles.com/news.php/5545.html' target='_blank'>http://msmobiles.com/news.php/5545.html</a><br /><br /></div>Remember the <a href="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11695">Samsung BlackJack</a> Smartphone from a couple weeks ago? Well, it now has an official name, specs and a availability time frame of Q4 2006. Msmobiles.com was at the IFA show and snapped a number of pictures of Samsungs new SGH-i600 Windows Mobile Smartphone. Yes, i600; Not to be confused with the <a href="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3716">old Samsung SCH-i600</a> (Did you notice the difference? C -> G  ) With all the number and letter combinations available, you would think they could come up with something a little more original. ;)<br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20060905-Samsungi600.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br />The specs look pretty solid, but we don't know what the processor is. Typically Samsung has used a 300MHz CPU. It would be nice to see that being used again in this device, but we can only hope at this time. The i600 will sport WiFi b/g, 128/64 ROM/RAM, MicroSD, MSFP, QVGA, HSDPA and EDGE. There's no word on what GSM frequencies this will support either. Check out all the pictures and let us know what you think about this new Smartphone. :D<br /><br /><b>Update:</b> More pictures and details from <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2006/09/05/samsungs-sgh-i600-an-hsdpa-and-wifi-smartphone-at-last">Engadget Mobile.</a> Check out their source for a good look at every possible angle or this device.

220 Mhz omap 1710 processor
Tri-band 900/1800/1900 GSM

The band is a turn off but an omap processor is more than sufficient for smartphones. At 220 Mhz, its speedy (even with omap 850 at 195 mhz its pretty good) and power saving.

Where did you get those numbers from? They're not listed on the linked article. And I don't recall them being posted on the MoDaCo announcement.

Oh, I had not seen the EM article. Very nice. They seem to have different pictures - the keyboard and the center wheel are different. I'm guessing that one of the two is a pre-production unit. I kind of like the looks of the Engadget Mobile device better. The number pad seems better thought out. Or perhaps one is North America and one is European. :?

If you haven't done so yet, click through to Engadgets source for this article. There's plenty of really nice pictures to look at! 8)

i wish someone would design a WM Smartphone with a left handed jog wheel :(

its so hard to use a jog wheel when you hold the phone in your left hand, dont they think of these things ;)

I would guess that percentage wise, that's a small amount of the market. So you could be waiting a while. ;)

I'm still a little confused here. Will I be able to use this phone with my Tmo account here in the US?

The US doesn't support 900 MHz. They're 850MHz. So, depending on what's used in your area, maybe. Does that help? ;) Seriously, if your area is built around 850 then you're out of luck. However, if you're area is 1900, then you're good. You will not have as good reception as you would if the device had 850 as well.

Truth is, you can't judge until the device ships. Sometimes they can make a different version for different markets, or change some things as requested by the carrier. Time will tell, but as it stands now, it may work, but it's not the best reception.

Trust me, jog wheels on the current Windows Mobile devices are over-rated. Stay tuned for my article on that. ;-)

You will be better off using the joy pad, that is more centrally located and has the other useful buttons close by.

Another Tri-Band phone from Samsung. No wonder Samsung is taking a beating from Moto.

Why can't the Samsung engineer put a Quad-Band radio in their devices. It is totally useless to make a smart phone class device with Tri-Band radio, no global roaming capability.

Someone please put some sense into Samsung's brains.

I'm with you. I would have bought one of these in a heart beat if it was quad band. It literally doesn't make sense. :x
