Look at what Bell Canada has added to their website - the Motorola Q. I guess Telus didn't have an exclusivity contract with Motorola. No word on when it will actually be available or how much this device will cost after discounts, or if Bell has added any tweaks to it. If anyone knows the answer to these questions, please share with us. Bell Canada operates a CDMA network - so this isn't a GSM version. That's still about 6 months off, in my estimation. 8)

Does Bell have data plan rates that are any better than what Telus offers?

Sadly, no. It looks like 30MB will cost you $60 a month, while 250MB (the next size up) will cost you $100. They offer smaller plans at 4 and 8MB, but that's just not enough. And you'll still need to get a minute plan on top of that.

I saw the Q on a Telus ad last night. And it's live on their site now. :) But I would really prefer a GSM version of it.

With these prices, we're no where near the 21st century.

GPRS roaming using the Italian WIND service provider is the best prices going around (at least here in Canada). For the one time cost of obtaining the SIM card (~25 Euros), the cost is 20 Euros/month for 200MB/month of worldwide roaming or 1000MB/month in Italy. Worldwide includes Canada, USA, Germany, UK and at least 30 other countries.

I've used it on my last vacation in Europe and also use it in the Vancouver, Canada region on my SMT5600 and it works great. Very handy for mobile Internet access.

What I did was to carry two phones: one for voice and one for data. The phone with the WIND SIM card for data access using my phone (either an Ericsson T39m or the SMT5600) as a dial-up-modem from either my PDA or my laptop (all data connection via Bluetooth by the way).

I should also add that this may be only good until the end of the year, but, from what I gather, WIND has been extending this offer on numerous occassions.
