View Full Version : Changable FacePlates/Device Customization on the Smartphone

With Smartphone’s starting to slowly emerge in the consumer market, one has to wonder? Where are all the snazzy Smartphone’s? In today’s Smartphone world there are few devices out there where you can customize the phone to match your own individual style. Take away the HTC STRTrk, which you can get in a variety of colors, and the T-Mobile SDA, with its all white iPod like body, and you're left with the bland black and silvers phones that are targeted more towards business users than the average Joe.<img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/augusto-2006.08.15-strtrk.pink.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/>Personally, I'm a huge fan of Smartphone modification and I wish there was more of it. It gives your device a sense of individuality, while at the same time making it look awesome! Right now we are pretty much limited to <a href="http://www.VajaCases.com/affiliate&amp;ID=100">fashion accessories</a> or <a href="http://smartphone.kleinweder.ch/">homescreens</a> for our modification needs. Hopefully with the release of the HTC STRTrk we will start to see some cooler, more stylish devices. I wouldn't even mind a detachable face plate or two. ;) Now I know there are those out there that do not share my love of customization, so let us know how you feel!

Well, 2 colours. I don't know that I would call that a variety. ;)

Anyway, I selected faceplates. Only because I can't see devices becoming available in multiple colours anytime soon. It would be cheaper to offer 1 device and allow the customer to change the look of it. That's why I selected faceplates, but to be honest I don't really care what it is. Just let me customize my phone. It could be a simple skin that you apply to the phone for all I care. I just want mine to be different. :mrgreen:

im against phone tattoos... but i would kill for some faceplates ;)

i wouldnt mind seeing phones come out in different colors. i would like to own a Foreseer when it comes out, mostly because they say it will come in different colors like yellow, green and i think purple too :)

My T-Mobile SDA is Silver...so if you've seen them in all white then I guess we do have color choices. I've only seen the Dopod in White so far.

you are right, SDA is in silver. You would think I would know this since I'm always playing with my fiances... but i guess I just dont play with it to much ;)

Well, currently 55% what some sort of customization. But for Jerry, I think customization means owning every model. ;)
