<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=3183' target='_blank'>http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=3183</a><br /><br /></div><i>"Mark/Space, yesterday announced that it has released an update to its popular synchronization software for Mac OS X, The Missing Sync for Windows Mobile. The new 2.5 release runs natively on Intel and PowerPC Macs alike and adds support for Smartphones and Pocket PCs that run Microsoft's Windows Mobile 5 operating system, including models from Dell, HP, HTC, i-mate, Palm, Motorola and Samsung. The Missing Sync for Windows Mobile provides connectivity and synchronization capabilities for Mac users with handheld devices running Windows Mobile 2002, 2003 or 5. Windows Mobile 5 devices, which began shipping at the end of last year, posed a problem for existing synchronization products, because significant changes were made to how these devices establish secure connections and sync with personal computers."</i><br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Jerry-mark_space_missing_sync25.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br />What I know about a Mac wouldn't fill a thimble. I have heard that Syncing Windows Mobile devices with them has been somewhat of a problem. For those of you in the Mac world this may bring relief. I haven't seen many Mac specific posts here. If you do use a Mac I would be interested to read your experiences in this area.

I'm a Mac user at home, but I haven't tried to sync my SmartPhone with it yet, just @ work.

Maybe I'll give it a try, not that I feel the need, but because it might be fun...

I purchased 2.5 yesterday, as an upgrade from an earlier PocketPC version, nice upgrade policy by the way.

Its a very slick UI, and it seems to work well, once you get it going. It took me a few tries to get the bluetooth pairing set up right, but now its syncing fine, and I can explore my Q from the Mac as well.

I installed the Missing Sync 2.5 for the first time yesterday on my PowerBook. I'm using it with a Cingular 2125, which I've been synching with a Toshiba Laptop running Windows XP. I will continue to synch with both computers.

After installing, my first few attempts to start the program were unsuccessful, but, all of a sudden, the program started normally and seems to be working fine.

At this point, I'm using USB to synch. My only comment is that it seems rather slow compared to synching on a PC. The software documentation talks about this, and recommends bluetooth if you want a faster connection. I plan on trying this soon.

Otherwise, it seems to work well. It will synch the time, and also synchs with the Mac Address Book and iCal (for dates and tasks). You can mount the phone as a drive so you can transfer files.

Additionally, the phone appears as a device in iTunes, so you can drag MP3 files directly to it in iTunes. However, all files tranferred from iTunes go to a default directory on the phone, which I assume is in internal memory (I haven't tried this yet, so I'm not sure). This would limit the number and size of files you can transfer by this method, because of the size of internal memory. It is probably easier just mounting the phone as a drive and transferring directly to a memory card.

The phone also appears as an option in iPhoto, so you can export images directly from iPhoto to the phone (and you can choose a folder on your storage card for this).

Anyhow, it's nice to finally have this capability on the Mac now. I usually use my PC all day and my Mac all night. I must say that I really like my Mac a lot, and wouldn't want to do without it.
