Is it possible to run an SMT5600 without the sim? Any key combination to get past the "Invalid or missing SIM card." screen? Of course, I won't be able to access any phone functions without the sim in it, but this thing has a heckuvalot of non-phone functionality built into it.

nope, you need a sim card to even get the phone up and running. the good news is if you go to your local cellular store you should be able to find a burnt out sim card taht has already been used and cancelled. then all you have to do is just put the phone in flight mode and youre good to go :)

Yeah, the 5600 needs a card. The i-mates don't.

You can also get a card out of some old used phones. It just needs something in there and you're good to go.

Want a Cingular one? I have a bunch, email me your address and I'll send it to you.
Alternately, go to your store and ask them for a replacement sim. (Make up a reason maybe? Yours is being wierd, lost your phone....etc.)
They de-activate your old card and activate a new one for you, you use the old one in de-activated phone.

If your phone is locked to anything other that Cingular, I suggest you unlock it, I have some links if you need, or look around the forums, it may be here somewhere.

BTW, I would like de-activated SIMs in other providers for my collection, I have Cingular and T-Mobile, AT&T Would be a priority, as well as anything else anyone has around, I'll pay $5 each unique one to send, you're out a free card and $0.39.

After using my JAMin for a week or so, I've concluded that I can't live without a touchscreen on my phone.

So, as of this point in time, I'm seriously considering selling the SMT5600. :( I haven't used it in ~ 10 days and I haven't looked back, either.

Touchscreens all the way! :rock on dude!:

Selling? Cool, I might me in the market if the price is right, it's a great phone and everyone should have one. :-)
