I purchased a generic (Billionton) Bluetooth USB adapter that uses the BCM 2035 chip from Broadcom. It is not compatible with Win XP SP2 Bluetooth drivers at all (i have tried adding its device ID to the bth.inf file) so I have to use the Wiidcomm drivers. I have tried a few versions, currently using 5.0.1.2800 but i get errors occasionally.
The problem lies in that the SMT 5600 cannot discover my USB Bluetooth adapter. My Moto SLVR L7 can discover and send files just fine however. The adapter can even discover both of those phones and pair with each of them successfully and successfully utilize the available services.
I would like for the Audiovox to discoverthe desktop so that I can use ActiveSync over Bluetooth. Does anyone have any solution or recommendation for my problem?
Thanks.

I'm not using the Microsoft drivers on my laptop. Not sure which ones I am using, but it's whatever the ThinkPads ship with and I have no problems pairing the 5600.
Make sure you have already done a sync over USB. It always helps to do that first. Also, with my laptop, I have to discover the phone from my computer and not the other way around.
Also, try the guide listed in this post. (http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=51740#51740) It's very helpful.

I know that the Thinkpad's use the Widcomm drivers because I used Thinkpad drivers to get me the latest version of Widcomm. I am not sure if this has anything to do with my problem but my USB Bluetooth device is listed in device manager as "Broadcom Bluetooth Firmware Upgrade Device" or "Broadcom USB Bluetooth Device". Either way I still can't get the 5600 to recognize the PC.

Well i have decided that I get the most consistent and error-free operation by using the Widcomm drivers that came with the adapter. The driver version says it is 1.4.3.4. I am able to pair with my phone as far as my computer is concerned but the computer just does not show up in the 5600's bluetooth devices.
I have no idea what to do. I don't think it is the fault of the USB adapter because my other phone can connect to it and vice versa. My 5600 can detect and connect with my SLVR as well. Could my 5600 be at fault?

Did you try the guide I linked to above? What was the results of that?

I did initially but that guide describes how to set it up with an adapter that is able to use the Windows drivers/stack. I know that it is similar but alas, my phone still wouldn't recognize. i will try again later though.
