They seem to be more problems with what people expected. For example, my favorite reason: "The touchscreen doesn't work". I was just thinking how the Q really does blur the distinction between Pocket PC and Smartphone. At any rate perhaps Motorola has just created the device that begins the final convergence of the two.

This is one of the greatest phones I ever owned.. coming from the Samsung i600 smartphone 2003... but that's only becuase I know how the Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone Operating System works... and love it. The common user needs to have Get it now and Vcast crap. Maybe Verizon should have made it more clear how this phone operates. I love the XML custimization, the sound file support for ringtones, Window Media Support, the keybaord, the ability to sync with Exchange and Lotus Notes for Email. I love that I have finally consolidated all of my "gadgets" into one device - Phone, Pocket Camera, Video Cam, MP3 Player and add Email support... all in a slim device.

HA! That's funny. I like the headphone comment. The device I have in my hands, clearly has a headphones jack on the top right corner of it.

They meant a standard 3.5 mm audio headphone jack, not a 2.5mm headset jack!

A lot of people bought these thinking it was a phone & and iPod...

this comes down to consumer error. I just don't get people, do they actually go and buy these without checking them out? Every store has one sitting right there to play with, come on people....

As for the moron who posted this stuff up (mobilewhack) with that title on th webpage, do some research before you go posting stuff. Now, there are 4 other sites posting your same stupid headline which to the average person (who doesn't read all the details) is going to assume that what you are telling them is true and then the device gets a bad rap for no reason at all.

This definitely represents an interesting challenge to Microsoft and partners as they try to make Windows Mobile more mainstream. Business customers might do the research first, but clearly more consumers will not.

Well now that I have one that makes up for one of the returned ones.

I have often speculated that eventually the definition of a Smartphone would eventually be not much different (or not at all different) from Pocket PC Phone.

Then, where do we draw the line? Will there even be separate categories or platforms in the future?

I'm sure it would save headaches for plenty of software developers if there was only one platform which they had to develop and test their software for.

I'm too far spoiled and gosh, I can't imagine ever going back to a non-touchscreen.. or even non-VGA :rotfl:

That's one of the more interesting points (but also a very tricky subject). I feel that I find myself falling into the Business category, because I use my WM Device as a productivity powertool (even though I'm only a student). While I do listen to music occasionally, I never watch movies, or even TV (unless it's the NY Mets  ).

My brother on the other hand, who is also a student and does not yet own a WM Device, wants "Internet Explorer and AOL Instant Messenger". I feel compelled however, to find him the best WM Device that he can get, such as the TyTN.

Well, that's just as silly. Most phones don't have a 3.5mm jack anymore anyway.

Welcome Photon. :D (here's a link (http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9816) for anyone not familiar with the reference. ;) )

OR is it a problem with how Verizon and their sales staff are marketing it? Having made several trips to a local corporate store (I'm trying to like the Q . . . . really I am) to play with the Q I can tell you the staff there are pretty clueless about the device. When questioned about the device a sales person will immediately launch into what it can do (even if it really can't) rather than ask the customer what they want to be able to do with it. They even go so far as telling customers it works exactly like a Blackberry.

The touchscreen doesn't work :rotfl:

I would like to meet these people. Also the ones who complained that the home screen interface (MRU icon list) changes.

It is an embarrasment. I can't believe it. On both sides, Verizon sales and their customers are apparently CLUELESS!

The problem(s) that Verizon is dealing with has always existed in one form or another and probably won't go away. One can expect misconceptions no matter how much time and preparation go into making something as understandable as possible, and that goes for both sides of the equation. :)

On another note (slightly off-topic), I have to say that I'm always surprised by what I perceive to be a distinct undertone of anger (or outrage) from devoted users. 8O :? I've been flamed many times in the past for making these very same remarks, but that doesn't change the fact that it still exists. One could even go so far as to say that the angry response to my remark merely validates that (Somerset Maugham once said that people invariably react most violently to the remarks which contain the most truth, LOL!).

Thoughts, anyone? :)

actually this happens with 99% of the phones i sell. no one does any research, they just walk in and want whats cool or hip or what thei friend has.

and those people are the same ones that go into a store and buy something without any knowledge of what it does, its kinda like a circle of life ;)
