Your Scheduling and Encryption options will be configured and your first backup to PC will be automatically performed. At any time afterwards, you can use a self-extracting backup file to restore everything in one easy step, or choose exactly which files you want to restore."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Jerry-Sprite.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/><br /><br />Finally! Sprite has released it's backup application for WM5 Smartphones. Until now we had nothing. It is $29.95USD and there is no trial version. Why I have no idea. There is a 30 day money back guarantee. Why you should have to buy it, find out it doesn't do what you want, then jump through some hoops to get a refund is beyond me. However, now we have some backup software, at last.

They are offering special upgrade price:
http://www.spritesoftware.com/upgrade.php

"Sprite Backup v5.1 does not work on WM2003 devices, and is not compatible with earlier versions of Sprite Backup. It only runs on devices using Windows Mobile 5. To cater for those customers who have replaced their WM2005 Pocket PCs or Smartphones with a Windows Mobile 5 device, Sprite Software is making an upgrade available. This upgrade is $15 and is available to all customers who have purchased Sprite Backup in the past."

I caved in and got the software. $15 is a good deal.

Even more strange, they only let you buy it. But after you buy it and download it and install it, it gives you a 10 day trial! They won't let you download the trial but after you buy it you get a version that can be used as a trial! 8O

Since I have a previous version that I use on my LOOX 720, I was able to get the upgrade pricing. At $15, I was willing to buy even without a trial. But for $29 - no way. Just glad I could get it at the reduced price, which really is generous considering I bought what was then Pocket Backup in 2003!

All the trial version slamming aside; I like the concept of self restoring backup files. Previously I used to carry the CAB installer on the Smartphone. I don't have to do that anymore. 8)

At any rate this is all we have for now. It seems to work :)

Darn, they're gonna get my $30 tomorrow probably. I like the sound of this:
Device/ROM Upgrades

It is likely that every once in a while you will want to upgrade your Windows Mobile device to take advantage of the latest OS enhancements and features. Sprite Backup provides a unique Upgrade Mode which allows you to safely move your data and applications across upgrades.
Sounds like just what I need to make my Cingular 2125 ROM upgrade go easier.

I've been using the beta for a few weeks and it's worked/ing as advertised. anyone know if you can just upgrade the beta w/ the "final" release installer w/o a hitch?

Has anyone tried the "Upgrade Mode" with a 2125? Does this mode mean that Sprite will restore ringtones, pictures, and programs without having to re-install them if a OS update is performed?

If so, pricey program but they will earn my $30 for the time savings.

Yes, I did the upgrade mode thing last night. It worked fairly well, despite warning me that it might harm my device. I took the risk anyway, and it seemed to copy back most of my settings.

While I'm happy that they've finally released a product for WinMo5 I'm still not impressed that it took as long as it did and the lack of a demo version doesn't help any either. :(

I know in the past that there has been problems with this running on locked devices like Orange. Has anyone run into problems with this running on their phones? I'm guessing the Q won't work is there any others? Has it worked for people with the SDA? I imagine it's fine on the i-mate SP5(m) line.
