<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.htcamerica.net/support/software_downloads.htm' target='_blank'>http://www.htcamerica.net/support/software_downloads.htm</a><br /><br /></div>It's been a long time coming, but it's finally here. HTC has posted an updated ROM for the Cingular 2125 Smartphone. It's not listed on the Cingular site - yet. But we're sure it's on the way. <br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20060619-2125ROMUpdate.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br />Jerry, Rocco, and Kris are busy flashing their devices. If everything goes well, and I'm sure it will, they'll be reporting their findings here shortly. This ROM will update the phone to AKU2 for Windows Mobile 5. That means your Smartphone will now have MSFP (Direct Push) and hopefully A2DP (Stereo Bluetooth support). If you're doing the update, please post back here and let us know how things went! :D<br /><br />Note: Flashing your device with this ROM will cause all of your data to be erased. Any Text Messages, email, home screens, ringtones, camera phone pictures, and what ever else you have on your device will be lost. Please make extra certain that you have sync'ed your device and copied any important data back to your computer before you run this update.

The update went well. So it is safe to install. The phone seems to be working. I can see that it has the MSFP piece. How can I verify the A2DP? I forgot?

Besides Push Email and AD2P, what else is there in this update?

Not sure about A2DP, but the radio has been updated from 4.0.13.21_01.16.01 to the new one 4.1.13.12_02.25.01.
The new OS version [About screen] is 5.1.195 (Build 14928.2.2.0).

Just loaded new ROM. Same benefits as the newer ROM's for the sp5, 8310. New Comm manager, Internet Explorer supports frames and has the 2 and 8 key set up to scroll, push email, etc.

I ran the update and have been playing with it for almost 6 hours now. Personally, I think this ROM runs a little slower than the previous ROM. I reflashed the phone twice just to make sure nothing was messed up during the first flash. still slow.
i also notice problems when typing text messages/email. the phone just cant keep up with my speedy fingers. if i hit a letter to fast it displays the number instead, like if you held down a button. its very annoying.
push email works great too and some new awesome features were added. they are as follows:
- t9 now keeps the word you were spelling when you input a word. looks like someone read the fight night article ;)
- the camera works like it does on the SDA, saves pictures to folders with the date. once again it looks like someone read fight night ;)
- file manager has magnifying glasses in place of the folder icons when in "list view" mode... im confused as to why
i guess ill give it a week or two before i really start to trash/praise it :D
EDIT: just restarted the phone, file manager icons are fixed but icons on the homescreen are wrong (wireless homescreen). flicking on the would be file manager icon takes me to the settings menu. the call history icon takes me to contacts.

So it works for you... granted you work for Cingular. Will it work for me, without paying you guys any more? ;) Any word on what's up with that side of things?

I think this ROM runs a little slower than the previous ROM.
I am running into occassional slow down. For some reason the first ActiveSync didn't work and slowed the device. I tried it twice, did a hard reset also.
But as mentioned the slow down is occassional. Hasn't been too annoying but then I have not used the phone much.
i also notice problems when typing text messages/email. the phone just cant keep up with my speedy fingers. if i hit a letter to fast it displays the number instead, like if you held down a button. its very annoying.
And I thought it was me. I always use half second for multi-press and it didn't work for me in this update. So had to go back to the default 1 second.
...but icons on the homescreen are wrong (wireless homescreen). flicking on the would be file manager icon takes me to the settings menu. the call history icon takes me to contacts.
I have seen that with the older version as well. Not sure what causes it. It seems like WM 5.0 caches the icons by position and the application associated with it. Upon reboot, the cache somehow gets messed up. I believe because of a program that was removed.

I downloaded it, but I think I'll wait a couple of weeks to install it. I don't need push email, but it would be nice to have. The slowness bothers me, though.

i might work for cingular... but im still under contract with t-mobile which is why it probably works for me
do me a favor, dont tell my bosses about that though ;)
all and all, im a bit dissapointed with this update. if anything it has caused more harm then good. my old rom was flawless, this new one is one headache after another. while i enjoy the little changes, like pIE having hotkeys for scrolling pre-installed, the annoyances like my joystick and keypad not responding right makes this update a failure. im honestly thinking about going back to the old rom, i use my phone to much to have it crippled like this.

Does it give you the option to save the old ROM? Or did you download it from somewhere?

i saved the rom yesterday. once i heard the 8125 had a corrupt rom release i wasnt about to take any chances. i guess i was well prepared this time :)
NEW PROBLEM
sometimes when i press a button the phone acts as if im holding the button down, even when i release it. now i know this isnt a problem with sticky keys, this is just a broken firmware :( hopefully they fix this soon. i never thought i would see the day when i would say this, but i think they pulled a moto ;)
EDIT: i was actually able to reproduce the bug. seems if you are in a text message and you hit the backspace key to quickly, to many times, the cursor will just continue going back as if your holding the backspace key down... not sure if this is a feature or a bug. seems to work in the date/time section as well while i was trying to set my alarm :(

Yeah, that's about where I am... it'd be a cool feature, but I've gone without it this long, and it's probably not worth a slower device, and definitely not worth paying another $17/month ($10 Cingular + $7 4Smarthpone). The magic 8-ball is reading "signs point to no" right now... should I shake it again? ;)

a contracts a contract, breaking it really isnt worth $200, especially when tmobile has that great roaming agreement with cingular so im using their towers anyways ;)
 maybe i should stop talking now ;)
the moment i actually get a straight answer as to what is going on with the data plans ill post it here. my honest opinion on the matter though is that if you have the old data plans you should be good. usually cingular is really good with letting people stay grandfathered into features and plans. if they handle this event like all the other ones in the past than the new "smartphone connect" plan will be required for new customers or people that want to add the servie to their smartphone after june 18th, when all the new media plans hit the streets.

That's good to hear. :) Yeah, I remember hearing how Cingular let old "blue" AT&TW customers keep their great rates even after the merge. Maybe they'll pull through for the customers again here.

We have a corp plan with Cingular and have enalabled unlimited data on nearly all of our phones (about 50 or so). I have also intalled the Good Link server and the client application on about 30 of those phones. Good works, uh good.
But, the email client leaves a lot to be desired. Such as no way to do attachments, some attached wav files don't convert the codex correctly.
But, I am not ready to... #1 take a chance on the new ROM, #2 upgrade my Exchange to do push messaging, or #3 take the entire mobile message management role. I like the simplicity the Good Link brings. But I wish they would get a better client.
PS: I went to the MS TechEd last week and Windows Mobile was/is all the rage. Such hype for a service that is next to impossible to provide, so far anyway. Also, at TechEd, guess who was the only mobile phone service vendor there? Cingular!

Yeah, this is getting on my nerves, too. I do a heavy amount of texting, and this is just downright frustrating. Possibly enough to take me back to the older version.
Wouldn't it be nice to get a cool phone at some point w/ great features, and they all worked? :-)

Yeah, I looked into that a few months ago, but decided it's not what I want. I may try it out, but it's missing two key things. First, I want to use my own domain name. Secondly, they don't include Outlook sync, and most of my email checking will still happen on my PC/laptop.
4Smartphone may cost a bit, but so far they seem to have great support. Maybe I'll try out the new firmware tonight or tomorrow, since people are saying they can use push email without paying more.

My hosted Exchange is through 1and1.com, which is $6.99 w/ my own domain email address. They told me they have SP2 installed, but I have no way to tell. If they do, then that saves a few bucks off of 4Smartphone!

I use 1and1 for Hosted Exchange as well, and I can tell you they have SP2 for Exchange wppe installed. You can tell by the fact your tasks are syncronizing against their server.....previous to SP2, tasks only synced with the desktop.

It could be speed of typing. 2 lines of text on the 2125 take me about 15 seconds to tap out in T9.
And it doesn't happen all of the time. It's just kinda random "freezes" which look like a key is "stuck". It hasn't affected me 100% of the time, and I used to get it on the old ROM, but it just happened to hit me 3 messages in a row on the new ROM.
As an example, I just tried typing the following common phrase and got...
"My is the time for all god men to come to th3 aid of..."
It missed the 'o' in 'Now', and the second 'o' in 'good', and held down the 'e' for '3' in 'the'.

I installed the new Rom yesterday. I also noticed a little slower response time. But I have had no issues with using T9.
Also after 2 days of discussion with Cingular I am now using the Smartphone connect plan unlimited for $19.99. This is different from the media net plan and the "push" plans. The hard part was getting Cingular to find the plan. I had to walk them through the process on their website and then the still would not acknowledge the $. Finally the manager said it was a typo but he would give it to me. Whatever? It is still on the site today.
In order to see the plan you need to go through the process of buying a new 2125 and then the smartphone connect plan will show up as a data option. If you use any other phone the media net plan will apprear.
Back to the rom, I do like the added icons under the connections area.
Has anyone tested the bluetooth stereo functionality?

Oh wow, I'm glad you pointed that out... not sure how I missed that. Well that sucks. :? I'd rather not be forced into sending email from @4Smartphone.com, even if it's only on my Smartphone (in Outlook you can set up virtual accounts). I thought that was the whole reason of changing the MX record to point to theirs. Hmm... are there any cheap ways to use your own domain with a hosted Exchange account? I guess, as you pointed out, I could go with 1&1, but I've had a bad experience with them and transfering out a domain name in the past. Do I have to host my domain with them in order to use their hosted Exchange?

I'm mostly leaning not to install this update. WM Smartphones are slow enough (on app startup anyway).
I'm not dying for Push Email and I don't have a stereo headset. To be honest I don't use my phone for music anyway. Atleast not yet. Perhaps a high capacity MiniSD card will change my mind.
If those are the only benefits, then perhaps I'll pass. For now. No muss, no fuss.

Overall what do you think of the new ROM?
Ok so now I've had a day with it. Here are some things that I've noticed.
1. The texting issue DID come up a few times:
It seems that it is random with the T9. Sometimes I can type really fast and other times it just starts to freak out! I haven't messed with any of the T9 Delay options in the T9 Settings...
If I hit the back button real quick, it will start to delete EVERYTHING I just typed unless I stop it.
2. Some apps will not install:
A few of the applications that I have
Sniper = installed
ClearVue = installed
Tube2 = errors during installed?
3. Battery Life:
Well after a full charge yesterday after I installed the new ROM, I'm down to 50% battery? I thought that this was supposed to help with battery life?
The Backlight almost NEVER goes off now. I have checked the power settings and they are the same as I used on the old ROM.
4. Slowness:
Yes, there does seem to be delays in almost everything I work with on this device now. More so than the old ROM.
I like being able to search our Exchange GAL now without installed any other apps, that's pretty cool!
So that's just a few of my findings.
Thanks,
Aaron

I actually didn't install the ROM upgrade last night... but possibly tonight. I wanted to see how it's been working for people here, and decide if I'm really going to get a hosted Exchange account.
Well after a full charge yesterday after I installed the new ROM, I'm down to 50% battery? I thought that this was supposed to help with battery life?
Since it sounds like you're using Exchange Direct Push, I'd say that's one reason battery life is worse. It maintains a constant connection to the Exchange server, right? More activity means shorter battery life.
The Backlight almost NEVER goes off now. I have checked the power settings and they are the same as I used on the old ROM.
Now that doesn't sound good. Does anyone else have this problem?

Well, it appears we were both confused. I've been asking 4Smartphone a number of questions before I decide to go with them, and the confirmed that my default/From address will be

I think "Domain Services" means you'd actually point your DNS entries to their servers, and they'd handle everything for you. One of my questions was if I could point my MX records of multiple domain names to their servers to receive mail in my Exchange account (since that's faster than setting up forwarders), but they said they could only do that for the Enterprise Plan. I told them forwarding would work. ;)

hey guys.. i went ahead and contacted HTC yesterday.
here is there response.
Hi Matt,
Thank you for making me aware of this link. I have forwarded the link on to our developers and prod/dev group, and I hope that they will work to address some of what we are seeing on the forums. I’d like to say that it will be fixed shortly, but software releases take some time to launch. I would try to re-load the new ROM and see if the first load just didn’t take right. I’ve heard very few issues with this ROM (I am the moderator for this info inbox).

I actually didn't install the ROM upgrade last night... but possibly tonight. I wanted to see how it's been working for people here, and decide if I'm really going to get a hosted Exchange account.
[quote=servoisgod]Well after a full charge yesterday after I installed the new ROM, I'm down to 50% battery? I thought that this was supposed to help with battery life?
Since it sounds like you're using Exchange Direct Push, I'd say that's one reason battery life is worse. It maintains a constant connection to the Exchange server, right? More activity means shorter battery life.
The Backlight almost NEVER goes off now. I have checked the power settings and they are the same as I used on the old ROM.
Now that doesn't sound good. Does anyone else have this problem?
FYI
My backlight goes off just like the old rom settings

AD2P? What tweak?
Herro! Y'all know about that tweak. I know you do. This came up about 3, months ago. I applied the SP5m WWE rom to my 2125 just to have A2DP until Cingular got around to releasing the Aku2 so I could enable it on the Cingular 2125 rom.

I followed the tweak and I am having a little issue.
When I look at my bluetooth settings (2125) the "set as wireless stereo" option is greyed out. Any help? Is it because my headset (HS820) is not a2dp compatible?

Here is the good part:
- It has MSFP, for direct push
- Global Address List lookup on Exchange server
- I am sure it has a bunch of OS updates, bug fixes provided by Microsoft (AKU 2.2) But don't know specifically what has been fixed
- Browser : support for frames
- Browser : Keys 2 and 8 let you scroll up and down respectively [we can do this in the older ROMs but it is a registry hack]
- Better car kit support in Bluetooth [haven't tested this but I believe AKU 2 was supposed to have this]
- T9 remembers the words as pointed out by Rocco
- Camera saves the files in a better manner as pointed out by Rocco
- The Connections screen has more icons, this was pointed out by sosnow. You can shut down all the data communications, it will turn on the moment Pocket Outlook, pIE or any other application requests for data network. Think of it is a kill switch for all current data transactions. Not sure how this is different from double tap on the "End Call" button in the home screen.
I think I have captured all the new features. :?

all and all, im a bit dissapointed with this update . . . . im honestly thinking about going back to the old rom, i use my phone to much to have it crippled like this.
Does it give you the option to save the old ROM? Or did you download it from somewhere?
NOTE: If you upgrade to the latest version, then you cannot go back to the older version. :?  I tried. The phone refused to accept the old firmware. For once I froze because my phone was stuck in the rainbow screen mode. I had to pull the battery out to restart it. It survived but survived with the new ROM.

Now the bad part.
[BTW I re-installed the ROM today]
- In T9 mode (even with 1 second keypress; don't even think about 1/2 second delay) the key strokes get botched up at times. It is usable with 1 second delay, as long as you don't type fast. But 1/2 delay, my favorite is not usable.
- Slow at times
- "Searching..." problem happens from time to time in weak signal spots but I have figured out when it happens. For me it happens only when I have an ActiveSync connection. Somehow it slows down the phone and causes the "Searching..." problem. Not sure why this happens only when I have an ActiveSync connection, is it slow speed and poor network. :?
- Even in good signal areas, I can see the carrier name flicker on the home screen. It goes from Cingular to blank to Home Service. Anyone else see this problem. I had this problem couple of ROMs ago. The last one was stable. This problem has returned it seems. :?

Well after a full charge yesterday after I installed the new ROM, I'm down to 50% battery? I thought that this was supposed to help with battery life?
Since it sounds like you're using Exchange Direct Push, I'd say that's one reason battery life is worse. It maintains a constant connection to the Exchange server, right? More activity means shorter battery life.
I have hypothesis for why some people are seeing a battery drain. Since direct push requires the phone to always have a connection with the Exchange server. If the connection times out (since it is an HTTP Web request) or if the cell signal drops, the connection has to be re-established.
If you look at my previous post, I was talking about how on my home screen I can see the carrier name going from Cingular to blank to Home Screen. I will bet that for folks who are seeing battery drain, it is happening quite a lot. Or at least at the place where they spend most of their time.
Any thoughts? Comments?

Noticed that the network driver/layer is not getting activated when I connect the Smartphone. So it could be that this ROM has RNDIS turned off.

I just want to confirm this. Is there no way to restore the old rom? My Axim x50v (also made by HTC) always gave you the option of saving the old rom. You could then go back to a previous version (must have been saved from the same device) if the new rom didn't work out. Does the rom upgrade program even ask if you would like to save a copy of the exisitng rom? I'm holding off, but would have been more likely to try it if there was an option to go back.

There is no option to go back from within the upgrade process. The only way you can go back is if you saved the older ROM installation file. I haven't tried this. I'm not even sure it will let you go backwards.

I do notice the long keypress bug (not just with T9, but with all input methods), but I'm living with it. It's well worth it to have push email. That said, if you don't need push email or A2DP, I see no big reasons to upgrade.

Change the T9 setting in preferences. it probably went back to slow. Go to moderate or fast.
open a new text message, hold down the T9 button, go to T9 settings/preferences. then change your delay.
Hope that helps.

I highly recommend anyone with a Cingular 8125 to update their ROM. Ever since I started using Cingular’s 8125, I have experienced strange unpredictable errors using third party programs. I also experienced a number of other random issues associated with getting Wi-Fi and GPRS/EDGE to work properly. Updating to HTC’s new ROM was effortless and worked without having to do any tweaking. My third party programs now work flawlessly and Wi-Fi, GPRS/EDGE and Bluetooth work simultaneously. However, accessing Cingular’s Media Net still requires going into Advanced in Connections to change Networks from My ISP to Media Net. If you do not have to access Media Net, I recommend leaving it set to the default My ISP. Internet access through GPRS/EDGE appears to be more responsive via the My ISP setting verses the Media Net setting.

My $.02 is...
a) report the problem through the Cingular forums... http://forums.cingular.com/cng/board?board.id=cingular
b) report the problems through HTC support... http://www.htcamerica.net/support/cingular.htm (which unforunately is a link to a Cingular e-mail address)

I'll just throw out that I changed the phone to No Delay in my T9 settings, and it's amazingly much better. Not perfect still, but much, much better than I had before. I can't really speculate as to 'why', since I'd think the phone would be doing much much and so it would lag more often, but perhaps because it's doing more, it keeps the processor and input sensors running at 'full speed'? <<SHRUG>> Hell if I know - I'm no electrical engineer.
Of course, I think this may be affected somewhat by typing style (i.e. how fast), but give it a try - you might be surprised.
(NOTE - I also have Word Completion and Next Word Prediction turned off.)

I have had it. Guys I think I am done putting up with this 2125. Had SIM replaced countless times to remedy issues. Usually got the typical SEARCHING error with first firmware. Now with the current one, im getting:
"cannot start 'autoprof'. A critical component is either missing or failing due to low memory."
I JUST REFLASHED THE DAMN THING TOO!!!
POS Keeps going into Headset profile on calls. LAG is unbearable. Phone is like a paper weight that drops every single call.
I am going to cingular tomorrow to complain and possibly pay the diff to move up to the 8125.
And to think I was just about to get an awesome custom leather case for it!!! Don't get me wrong, its a badass phone. Its just got too many ROM bugs and I cannot afford to keep getting new sims and new phones forever.
What are your guys takes on the 8125???? Is it just as buggy??? LOL. Im just pissed off tha all BUSINESS PHONES suck when it comes to reliablity when compared to some NOKIA army tank phone.

Any ideas as to which ROM is most stable. This one is running the last ROM:
ROM: 1.0.9.0
OPERATOR:1.8.42.14
RADIO: 4.0.13.21_01.16.01
Should I move to the new ROM or simply stay where I am at. I mainly jsut text message and make calls, so I'm lookin for the best stability in those areas.
Time to order my leather case.
Thanks
Matt

im convinced its a bad ROM, i reflashed my phones a total of 4 times and each time I have had the same problems. each time i reflashed the device I also downloaded a fresh copy of the ROM from HTC, just to make sure it wasnt the downloads fault. While I love push email, I also love being able to type an email up without wanting to stomp on my phone :P
could it be possible these problems you discussed above are brand specific?
I have SPVc600 from Orange and I wanted to flash it with the iMate ROM - but this what I read here made me think twice before tamperring with the irreversible!
maybe in this specific brands case a story would be different - with no 'sticky keys' texting, fast battery drain and no slowness?
what do you think?

Hello everyone,
Can someone tell me if the update adds "French" and "Spanish" items in the "Language" combo in "Regional Settings". I haven't updated yet my 2125 yet and all I've got in that combo is "English".
Thank you!

In case anyone is interested...
I got tired to be asking for this and realized that if i had done it before on a Feeler, well that must apply for Tornado also!!
Based on Ronswens tutorial to install t9 languages on the Typhoon, i've extracted the t9 languages from imate's WWE 2.0.8.0 rom to use it in Tornado/Faraday devices.
The compressed file contains these languages:
Czech
Dutch
French
German
Greek
Italian
Portuguese
Spanish
Turkish
Thai
Anyone cares to share NRE, RUS or CHT files?? Please PM me and i'll add them to the .rar
Here's the file:
http://rapidshare.de/files/26231202/t9_tornado.rar.html
or
http://www.laneros.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=51303&d=1153264827
Now here is what you must do:
* Extract t9xxxxldb.dll and t9imeres.dll.0xxx.mui of your language to \Windows on the phone.
* Add appropriate values to [HKLM\T9 Input Method\LDBs] and [HKLM\T9 Input Method\MUI\Languages] and restart the phone.
Spanish T9 example:
* Extract T9SpanishLdb.dll and T9ImeRes.Dll040a.mui from t9_tornado.rar to \Windows
* [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\T9 Input Method\LDBs], add string value '040a' with data 'T9SpanishLdb.dll'
* [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\T9 Input Method\MUI\Languages], add '040a' to the list of 'Available', so the data will be '0409,040a' (or whatever your phone uses.. just add the one for the language you're installing)
* Restart the phone.
List of Locale IDs can be found HERE (http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/reference/winxp/xp-lcid.mspx)
NOTE: If somehow the libraries don't appear on your t9 after the procedure... you can try using numbers only (i.e. when using spanish, it's: "040a", but you may have to rename it to somewhat else like "0404", in the registry and the archive).
PLease tell me how did it go for you!

Have any of you contacted HTC regarding the downfalls of the last ROM and received a reply from them?
Thanks,
Manuel

With the new ROM, is everyone's Password Setting's "Prompt if device unused for..." and idle time setting greyed out???
It is on mine. I'm thinking, however, this might be due to Microsoft's (I work here) Device Access Control settings. Since I connect to corpnet using my 2125, perhaps I'm disallowed from changing the device lock.
Anyone?

Are you using Direct Push email? I would imagine that it's had the security settings pushed down to it and thus made that option useless. It should already be configured to lock right?

Yep, that's it. Hmph. I really don't like having to password in all the time, and the new ROM auto-repeat-key-for-no-reason makes it all the more annoying.
Could someone briefly explain what's so groovy about Direct Push that I should keep it? :)
Maybe there's a registry setting where I could at least increase the time from 15 minutes to something else....

Always on email. So your device is like a Blackberry. You should get email on your device as quickly as you do on your desktop.

Not likely. It would be the same as account permissions on your desktop. If the Network admin decides to push down a restriction that says you can't change the wallpaper, then there's not much you can do. In this case your company has decided that your device needs to be password protected to avoid any emails falling into the wrong hands.

Hey guys, I just got a 2125, upgrading from an SMT5600. My 2125 came pre-installed with the new rom, so I didn't even get a chance to try the old rom. But, I agree with the others who noticed a "sticky key" problem. Tapping a key quickly will type in the number, pretty much every time for me. Messing with the text settings doesn't help at all, really.
Also, it's not just with text. The first thing I did with my phone was install a Nintendo emulator, but all the games are pretty much unplayable due to this sticky key problem. I didn't put two and two together for the longest time! I was playing Double Dragon, and my guy would go "punch punch punch, waaaiiiiiiit" and I'd get demolished. Then I tried playing Mega Man 4, and I'd tap the B button. For those of you who don't know, tapping the B button in MM4 would normally make you go "pyoo pyoo pyoo", y'know, shooting normal little shots rapidly. But instead, my guy was going "pyoo pyoo, chaaarrrrrrge, kaplow! (charge shot)"
So, in case that asinine description didn't make any sense, what I'm saying is this: Tapping a key rapidly in any application will eventually register as holding the key down. Boo to that.
The funny thing is, I couldn't play NES games on my SMT5600 because my current rom on there didn't allow two buttons to be pressed simultaneously! Screwed again!

I've seen it said new ROMs won't accept old ROMs... is this true? Has anyone tried with this one? Or, should I trust HTC/whomever to get a fix out?

I did; didn't work. :-(
I am also waiting for the fix from HTC.

Hey - is anyone having a problem with not being able to answer calls? My 2125 has the latest Cingular/HTC firmware doing push email from corporate. I have no other software loaded. When the phone starts ringing, I can push either the "Answer" soft key, or the "Send" button, and the call will get forwarded to voice mail. This happens all the time, and I had been through several hard resets. Coworkers (also on the push from our corporate email system) seem to be experiencing the same problems.
Any ideas?

Is this the "better direct support" that we can expect from HTC? I hope not.
If I give them the benefit of the doubt, I'd say there's a fix in Cingular's hands and HTC can't speak for Cingular's timetable.

Just an FYI, I had to replace my phone via Cingular XBM - it kept flaking out and randomly powering off. The replacement I got has this firmware...
CPU: TI OMAP850
Speed: 195MHz
RAM: 64MB
FLASH: 64MB
ROM version: 1.0.9.0
OPERATOR version: 1.8.42.14
LCD: 240x320 TFT
Color: 65536
Model Name: 2125
IMEI: 35629600750626800
Radio Version: 4.0.13.21_01.16.01
Sooooo, if you're really bugged by the sticky keys (like I was!), just call up Cingular, tell them about your phone is having a sticky key issue (or random power off's like mine), and they'll ship you out a new one. It's pretty painless. (Hell, they even include a piece of packing tape to tape up your old one in the box and ship it back.)
Of course now that I have this done, what's the best firmware that I should put on? I believe I have the "May" firmware on which fixed the radio issue. Thoughts on if I should drop on a Qtek firmware? An i-Mate firmware?

I called Cingular, and got a Phone number for Cingular HTC product support (actually HTC). The woman on the phone was very nice, and concerned about the sticky key issue. She said she had not heard of it, and had me go through the steps to reproduce very carefully. At first I was thinking this was the 100th time she had heard this complaint, but it seemed like it was news to her. I told her my phone was nearly flawless unitl the new rom crippled the button input. then I got 2 new 2125's from XBM with the same rom and same problems. She said someone would call me back in the next few days.

Can you post the phone numebr you got, such that others like me can call in and establish to them how serious and widespread an issue this ROM upgrade is?
Thanks.

Here's the public contact information (http://america.htc.com/about/contactus.html) that HTC is offering. But I really think you need to start by contacting Cingular about the problem. While HTC is the vendor of the phone, they're only going to listen to their customers complaints - and that's Cingular. Remember, HTC hasn't sold you anything.

I took Mike's advice from Aug 16th and emailed the Cingular Support guys last week about my stickey-key problem that came with the new firmware.
I never got a reply from them, so I pinged them again Monday, still with no ack.
Today, I called the number posted above by mb_wi, and spoke to a guy at HTC who was also unware of the stickey keys problem.
Sadly, after listening to my situation for a bit, his solution was for me to wait "one week at the most" for a new firmware to come out. Apparently (according to him) they put new firmware versions out quite frequently, and his claim was that clearly something must have been wrong with the firmware version I downloaded last month.
But we here all know that HTC does NOT put out a new firmware every week, thus my trust in this HTC CSR went down quite a lot.
Still, I re-downloaded the firmware executable file currently on the HTC support page, and ran a CRC tool on it versus the one I used for my upgrade a few weeks ago. Result? Same CRC for both.
Sigh. i guess we just have to keep waiting for a new firmware.
Although I'd urge more of you who suffer this stickey-key problem to call or email Cingular and/or HTC asap, so they can appreciate how many people are affected by this firmware hiccup.

I have to hard-reset my phone so am considering upgrading the ROM while I am at it. The latest at HTC website is 2.0.13.0 and I have 1.0.9.0.
Should I upgrade of just reset?
Thanks.
