While it's looks pretty nice, it doesn't appear to be anything special in regards to the specifications: Candy-Bar, 64MB ROM, 64MB RAM, Windows Mobile 5, 1.4 megapixel camera, and a lack-luster 176x220 screen. Not much to get excited about with this phone. :? There's one other picture of the device over at PocketPT.net in case you're interested.<br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20060609-Oxygen.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/>

I hope this is dirt cheap, because it's about a thousand steps back from the HTC Tornado. :?

Yeah, to me it sounds like the price-point would be the selling asset of this unit. It's good to have a wide variety of devices -- if it means accessibility to different segments of the consumer market.

according to my sources, launch price is being targeted somewhere between $250 and $300. as you said, the price is the main attribute of the phone, and its purpose is to convert the mass market who can't afford pricey $500 smartphones with tons of bells & whistles...

How can you do better than the $200 Q or $50 2125 (with rebates and a contract)?
I-mate could grab this and sell it for $300, which would only be a couple hundred less than an SP5. People buying i-mate devices aren't looking for a cheap enterly level phone - on average. I think i-mates customers are geeks or technophiles that don't mind spending a little more for a more feature rich device.
Will have to wait and see where this fits into the market, but right now I'm very impressed.

I am also not sure how this device fits into the HTC product family and the market segment.
On the other hand, engadget mobile had stated this in this news item: (http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11338&highlight=htc+excalibur)
"The Foreseer and Monet will be joined by the "Oxygen" in HTC's mobile TV lineup, though we don't know which standard it'll be packing."

I do like the looks of it though. Nice design.

-$100 on Amazon with contract? ;)
Seriously, it would help if it had a decent price point in the carrier's store. I'd like a phone where I can tell someone "here, get X from T-Mobile, it costs the same as a 'dumb' phone and is so much better". $200 is pretty good, but nowhere near the price point for a casual customer... and those casual customers rarely buy from Amazon (which, btw, is only cheap after that annoying mail-in rebate).

Actually, Cingular has some crazy rebate right now that brings the price down to something silly. You can get this from any Cingular store. I hear, ya. Rebates aren't as good as if the phone was already cheap. But it's still pretty good.
