http://www.vzwshop.com/buyq

Okay folks, can we get a show of hands please; who ordered the Moto Q today? I still cannot believe that Motorola and Verizon Wireless have released this Smartphone for an awesome price of $199, after an instant rebate of $100 for a 2 year contract. 8O If that was not enough, Verizon Wireless is offering free activation. The only catch is that you have to pay $79.99 every month for 450 voice minutes and unlimited data. In case you haven't placed your order, you can do it over here.

The early voters seem to be skeptics.

You should add an option for "I picked one up in a store" since they were in stock ealier today at my local Verizon store.

WOW! I thought it was supposed to hit the stores on June 5th or something like that. It is already in the stores. 8O 8O

Yeah, I'm surprised. It's not suppose to be in stores yet.

I think Frequency does not like the QWERTY phones and likes the ORIGINAL Smartphone. ;-)

It is interesting how things have changed. Now the only difference between the Smartphone and Pocket PC Phone Edition is probably the touch screen and maybe applications like Pocket Word, Pocket Excel [that allow you to edit stuff].

More like "Circuit City employee who's boss just sent out the email on monthly quotas for the store realizes he can bring the store over the top by selling just a FEW of the Q's they got in early".

And then all hell broke loose with Verizon sending out an email early this morning telling any store that had them in stock to go ahead and sell them because the damn broke....

Yeah the 5th WAS the day...

Ditto. I don't see myself changing carriers just to get a specific phone. Besides, the MPX220 is humming along well enough. So, even if Cingular were to offer their version, I probably wouldn't switch immediately anyway.

I have to wait for an unlocked GSM version to arrive here in Australia. Looks great with the thumboard and thin design.

And first impressions from you guys lucky enough to be able to get one?

i was able to coax the people at the vzw kiosk in the mall to sell me the ONE they actually had there :)

Been a while since i've used a windows device. Kinda wish it was more like more BB :/ are all windows devices lacking shortcut keys?

HTC, Moto, RIM and Nokia have smartphones in different form factors, unlike Palm. Palm desperately needs to experiment with alternative form factors to remain competitive.

Hey guys,

Whoever purchased the phone, could you post the version and the build number of the WM in the phone? Trying to confirm/deny the roumors that the direct push is not there.

It's not there. They claim to have an update ROM coming soon. But, then again, so did Cingular and we haven't seen that one yet either. :(

The Q IS a WM5 Smartphone! And that is one reason the Motorola Q is deficient. WM5 Smartphones can not run Microsoft Voice Command. :bad-words: Only PocketPC OS can (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/downloads/voicecommand/sysreq.mspx).

Maybe they are just trying to get it to work.

:rotfl: Based on the reviews that we have read so far, I don't think that is possible.

But I think, what is happening is that everyone is passing out ... passing out because of shock; when they find that their Motorola phone IS WORKING like it should. :rotfl: Sound clarity, camera clarity, keyboard that works, screen that is dazzling; I am sure that is bound to put anyone in a state of trance.

I really hoped they'd hit a home run with this thing. I'd get one if it was on Cingular. In the mean time I get to have some fun teasing Moto.

yes... i have moved to the dark side (again). i'm already on VZW because my employer pays for the service. i'm part of a group testing the device...and i must say, early impressions are positive. call quality is way better than the last moto "wanna-be" smartphone (a.k.a., da 220), screen is nice a clear, scroll wheel is a welcomed addition and the form factor is definitely a plus. i'm still skeptical, but i'm giving it 2 weeks to see how things go.

So far the tally doesn't show much confidence in Moto or VZW.

I voted waiting for it to hit the stores, but before it can hit any stores for me they have to release a GSM version.

I swore after my last three Motos I'd never buy another Moto phone. I just got the SDA instead.

I got the chance to try the Moto Q today. A colleague at work bought one over the weekend.

Initial reactions
- love the form factor
- like the scroll wheel up-down action, but didn't like the push to click
- the D-Pad is a pretty nice
- the soft keys are too far apart, it will take a little getting used to
- the screen is nice and sharp, not as bright as the 2125/HTC Tornado
- the landscape screen, all I can say is that I had high hopes, but the layout combined with the resolution seems restrictive
- the keypad, like the spacing and the feedback, but it will take some time to get used to it. I haven't used a BlackBerry for almost 4 years now, so not sure if it was me having to re-learn typing skills or if it was the Q's keypad
- the device is responsive
- love the EVDO speed
- the camera looks good
- and oh yes, it is a smudge magnet
- it has a solid build quality

These are just the initial thoughts, I think they are based more on the fact that the Moto Q had built up a big impression in my mind because of all the pre-launch hype, so it could be the hype clearing out and me facing the reality.

How's the WiFi and memory on this thing?

Actually, it is the poorly designed survey questions that have three positive reponses and only one negative response that includes the carrier.

Someone needs to study polling or scientific experiment design.
