The courier dropped off a little something for me today that's currently charging:<img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/htc-star-trek-on-my-desk.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/>:D I have a couple of weeks to spend with this beauty, and I'm really looking forward to it. First impressions are extremely positive - it's thinner and shorter than the SP5m that I'm used to, though when open it's rather large. Still, this is a defining moment for the Windows Mobile platform - HTC is really pushing the design envelope as far as Windows Mobile is concerned, even if it's quite similar to another well-known phone. ;-)

Why don't you like them again Jerry?

Because I don't think phones should be music players or tv sets. I like that WMP and cameras are there, I just dont like the phone built around them. A Smartphone first I say! It's a lonely one man crusade I know. I accept the burden.

The buttons would be totally useless with A2DP anyway.

I would hope the phone had A2DP or it would be a total waste.

I could see if you could use the buttons maybe to flip through the contacts and dial with the phone closed. But with Bluetooth headsets and such that would be a waste too.

Now that would be a useful set of buttons.

Nah, it's most likely an HTC sample unit that they would pass around to potential carriers to test out and play with. I don't expect you'll see an HTC branded device in the stores anytime soon. It's my understanding that Qtek is owned by HTC. And there is also a connection between Dopod and HTC. So they've got their own brandnames. It wouldn't make sense for them to release a HTC brand too.

No No! This is a purist pursuit! They will still look like player buttons! I want them off!

No Wifi, No Mini-SD, No Mini-USB, No Deal

I've come too far in pairing down my essential carry-around gear to have the proprietary headache again... although if it had even 2 out of the 3 above, I'd jump on it like the geek I am... Curse you HTC!

Why, oh why would you want HTC branding on a phone unless your name was Harold Thomas Cantrell?

Why would you want ANY specific branding on a phone for that matter?

Though I like, not love, the thinness of the phone, and it's RAZRness....I will also pass on this phone mostly because of the MicroSD, proprietary ports and lack of WiFi.

But this was a close one. A freebie is a different story...but I'll save my money for the next device. (GSM Motorola Q?...Maybe....Naaaahhh!)

honestly, i dont know. im sure it stems from my pure love for what HTC has done for th ewindows mobile world but at the same time i think its because the branding was red and it looked hot on that device :)

I'm telling you if Moto doesn't screw this up (ok I'm reaching) and the Q makes it to GSM it will be a hit. This HTC creation while nice, is not what everyone, who isn't a geek, is waiting for. There, I'm on record.

I seem to remember you saying you couldn't get these demo phones working in Canada because of the carrier restrictions.

Feel free to ship that on down to San Francisco :)

CDMA vs GSM. It's the CDMA carriers that are the problem. ;)

its a nice phone... but i have always shunned against flip phones. im a 'brick' kind of a guy so let me savor my sp5m for a few more months..

but im getting a 2GB miniSD soon so... i think this tornado will be with me until it gives up on me or vice versa ^_^

I can't wait to lay my hands on this baby
Lucky bastards :x

Two issues I have with this phone:

1- MicroSD - I already own a 2GB MiniSD for my SP5m
2- The new 'hole'

a- Not a MiniUSB :x (got many accessories that use MiniUSB already)
b- No separate audio jack 'hole' (or whatever it's called)?!! (I use a tape adapter in my car &amp; with the new hole I'm not sure how will I be able to connect the phone to my car stereo?)
c- Can't charge the phone while the 'hole' is busy with a headset!

I beta tested a flip phone about 9 months ago that had that feature - very cool actually...I liked that part about the phone...

A Smartphone first I say! It's a lonely one man crusade I know.
Make that a two man crusade, or jihad, if that be your bent.

If my phone's capabilities don't enhance my business effectiveness, I don't need it.

Dont' want crummy compressd MP3 tracks, laughable cameras, nor to view videos on tiny screens.
