Rumor has it that it addresses some 3G SIM card issues. Now before you rush off to flash your phone (I haven't yet) consider a few things. First, it doesn't have AKU2. Second, it doesn't appear to upgrade the OS at all. You end up with the same ROM version. The only thing that does change is the Radio Version. Mine is 4.0.13.20_01.09.01. The new one is 4.0.13.21_01.16.01. Cingular has no trace of this ROM on their site. This comes from HTC's site which is notorious for not explaining anything. Worth wiping out everything and starting over? You decide. :)

grrrrrrrrrrrrrr, opti wants to use a bluetooth stero headaset. theyre just making my life more complicated with wires. its the 21st century, there should NOT be wires involved in anything cellular related unless its charging :)

also, i was promised flying cars... where are my flying cars?

Well, Palm has really raised the bar with the Treo 700w upgrade (with MSFP no less) keeping all your settings and applications.

Should be interesting to see if others raise their game too - this news isn't very promising though.

Hmmm the executable's file name is:

To_CWS_1090_184214_401321_SHIP_EngineerMode.exe

Engineer Mode? Wonder if that's a clue?

Seems like others are raising the bar, except Cingular is taking their time:
Orange released MSFP for their 2125-like phone
i-mate released it for their HTC Wizard type device, I believe.

Well, Palm isn't the first ones to offer this. But it's nice to see everyone doing it. Just wish cingular and T-Mo would get their versions out. Makes me glad I got an i-mate.

i have a friend that got the c600 because he couldn't stand the wait for the 2125. used orange's rom for a bit and then flashed his device with the 2125 rom. according to him cingular's rom preforms A LOT better then orange's rom.

cingular might take a bit of time to get the rom released but chances are it will be stable as heck :)

Nope the Cingular rom doesn't but the iMate rom does.

So my wife just purchased a replacement 2125 (after her original one got ran over by a taxi) :?

Anyway, its super clean as I haven't had time to get it running for her.....any reason NOT to do this? If it toasts the device, will Cingular support it (is it a Cingular supported upgrade)? Is push email on it or not? (I know Bluetooth headphones are not)

Thanks!

unfortunatly cingular will not support it if you fry the phone. reason being is because cingular hasn't officially launched this rom yet. it sucks, i know, but this is why you have to be careful with these types of things :)

All I can say is it went without a hitch and I don't notice a thing different except a have a new Radio Version.

i kinda dig the old SMS thing. I recently got a nice new 4smartphone.net hosted exchange account since im usually between one of 8 computers all day long 8O

this way i can make sure that all my important info is updated all the time. the sms thing is handy for when i want something and i need it the moment it hits my box but the downside is i can see this totally killing my text messages every month. cant wait for real push email :)

This has been released internally by Cingular. According to the release notes, it was primarily focused on 3G SIM compatibility issues (the dreaded "Searching" problem). It did fix the "searching" problem (without changing the SIM) on a phone that I flashed today. :) It was a relatively simple (idiot-proof) install.

I did not notice any new features, but it did recover a dead phone to a normally functioning one. (Previously you had to swap to a pre-3G SIM, and they are getting harder to find).

FYI - there is a similar release for the 8125, as well. I will apply that one to an 8125 later tonight or tomorrow, but I don't expect any magic.

I have seen the network "searching..." problem quite often and a few times the phone has switched into flight mode.

Will try it out this update weekend.

I must be lucky as I have not seen this issue. I flashed my 2125 anyway. I flashed my 8125 a few days ago with the xda rom and i can't believe how much better it performs. Like a different device. i am very impressed with HTC. I wish the carriers would get up to speed here.

The thing bugging me is having to re-install all the software and settings. And then in a month or so [hopefully], will be doing it again for the the AKU2 update.

But why release such a minor fix? Why not release AKU2 with it? My only thought is that AKU2 most be pretty far from release. :(

There was another one there but it was taken down. Not sure how long this one was up on the HTC site.

From what I've been told, we should expect the release of MSFP in mid-May. it could be pushed until early June as I haven't asked in a couple weeks, but it isn't too far out.

Trust me, if the radio is now fixed, this is not a minor update for those who had the problem.

I just moved and my phone now works fine. However in my old neighborhood my phone acted like *hit! I even visited there yesterday and my phone went back to it's old ways. loosing service for minutes on end, going back to full signal, flight mode - you name it!!!

I sure hope this radio fix works for people in those neighborhoods because it was really bad.

Now in my new apartment I get great call quality and Edge speeds of 211kb/s!

This can be a great phone - given the location.

-John
PS. Between the Cingular sites and ATT sites in my old neighborhood, there were no less than 5 cells located withing 3 blocks of my old apartment!

for me anyway, the ROM/Radio update didn't improve reception in areas where I constantly had problems.

It also did not did it resolve loosing the carrier issue in other areas where my phone does work.

From what I can tell the modification is un-nessassary. I wonder why they released the new radio upate? Do you think they are seeing if this minor update resolves issues in the field?

Not here in San Francisco. :-(

Ouch! :(

I am about to begin my long upgrade process:
- take note of all the apps I have installed.
- save SMS
- pIE favorites
- install the firmware
- restore the settings, apps....

I hope it is worthwhile.

I totally agree. I was waiting for the AKU2 update for the radio update. Glad that it is out sooner.

jfreiman, sorry that it didn't work out for you. For me the current situation is not terribly bad, so I am hoping that this radio update will fix whatever little problem I am having. Keeping fingers crossed. :-)

I wonder how this will affect the Blackberry pushmail service? Anyone think they need to worry?

I don't consider this a 'problem' since it hasn't affected me.

But my phone still does drop the carrier for a split second quite often.

It's really strange. I want to attribute it to the old ATT ('Blue Network as Cingular tech's call it) and the Cingular (Orange) networks... But I haven't heard about this phenominon showing up in other non-Windows Mobile/HTC phones such as Moto, Nokia, etc.

Much has been said about Cingular not coming out with the updates that other Faraday/Tornado carriers have released, but the Cingular ROM, in my opinion is more stable and reliable than the others.

For example, the Cingular ROM changes icons ('E' and 'G') from Edge to GSM whereas the Orange version and others does not.

I can only hope that the next ROM release from Cinguar will be the best on the market and because of the extra time offer more features and stability.l

Okay, here is the verdict, the "Searching.." problem seems to have gone away.

But, but, this thursday my phone got stuck in "Flight Mode." Long story short, I had to hard reset the phone. I am still recovering and re-installing all the apps. Where is the backup program?

I had the same problem back since February. Phone would go into flight mode for no reason. Simply restarting fixed the issue. However, one day .. my sim went "SEARCHING..." and would not stop no matter what.

I went to Cingular and they simply formatted a new 3g sim for me. Not after clicking endless buttons and restarting the thing (like I had tried over and over).

Since I have flashed to this RADIO update I have not noticed any reception problems anymore.

But... occasionally .. my numeric keypad will make noices when pressed .. but will not dial any number!! .. restarting fixes things fine .. im thinking maybe its a bug with Photo Contacts (3rd party).

I'm with the rest of you on the issue regarding aku2 though!!! i cant wait to clip phone on arm and goto gym with wireless headphones!!

or STREAM to the new ALPINE headunit for cars that offers bluetooth with AKU2. thats like a BOMB iTRIP!

IPOD poeple .. take a walk!!

I got the 2125 just before I left for Iraq. I did the update after I had a slight amount of reception issues... It worked fine in Al Udeid and Spain on the way home. No issues at home either... I'm wondering if there is a bad batch of Sims or phones going around....?

Cylon

Oh: Forgot to mention that I got the phone as soon as it came out (wanted a "world version" of my SMT5600...). It did have that memory management problem until I flashed it with the new rom... But that was it's only issue...

I don't suppose anyone still has this firmware update available for download? I have two 2125s that I use which are both experiencing the the "searching..." issue that I would like to upgrade but the link no longer works. HTCs support page doesn't even list the 2125 anymore...

Thanks.
