The phone itself is par for the course for a Windows Mobile Smartphone (the phone is actually made by HTC) -- it has quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, a 2.2-inch, QVGA display, Bluetooth 1.2, a 200MHz OMAP processor, 128MB of Flash ROM, 64MB of RAM, a 1.3 megapixel digital camera, and a microSD memory card slot. With this thing it's really all about the DVB-H tuner, and the demo Ryan and I saw of QVGA resolution, 30 fps video was pretty tight"</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20060406-ModeoSmartphone.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br />TV is the in thing all of a sudden. This device has some pretty nice specs, including the landscape screen, which I'm really starting to like better than the normal portrait screen. :D

After using the Motorola Q, I certainly agree. The 320x240 gives you the same perspective as a desktop, and allows for interesting layouts for programs.

The problem is that developers have to support both portrait and landscape, which means that you either develop two forms for every view you want, or you make trade off's (autoscrolling or autosizing), and don't make good use of one of the formats.

However, in the end, now we get to choose which orientation we prefer and buy the phone accordingly. Choices are good!! :D :D

this phone is being designed to be released in the US. right now UMTS/HSDPA is only available in 17ish major US cities. it wouldn't make sense to invest all that money into a UMTS/HSDPA smartphone if you can only use it in such a small portion of the US. in the long run this will be more cost effective for the manufacturers as well as the customer.

I agree Mike, landscape makes emails more readable. Viewing photos and videos etc.

I'm not sure I like the design. I like the screen size and layout. However, if it's going to be that wide, you should really do more for input than just the standard 11 keys. IMHO.
