i-600 issues

My old i-600 (still the orginal operating system) has developed two problems. One is that it sometimes does not power down when I press the "off" key and two when I first dial a number after turning it on it is very slow to bring up the number being dialed. I wonder if I need to do a hard reset.

I've found that I rely on Smartphone notes and e-wallet and don't much use most of the other software that I've installed over time.

It kind of sounds like you might need one. I would start be uninstalling any applications that you are not using. You may find that clears things up. Of course, if you have loads of apps installed on it, then a hard reset might be quicker. ;)
