The MapQuest Navigator will be marketed as a cheaper alternative to navigation systems built into cars. In order to get the software for the service to consumers' phones, MapQuest is working on agreements with cell phone operators. The service could work in cellphones sold by Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel, the company said."</i><br /><br />Welcome to the party MapQuest. There are already a lot of different navigation programs for the mobile market. Does MapQuest really stand a chance? Frankly, I was surprised in this article to read that MapQuest has 40 million monthly users. I stopped using MapQuest a couple years back when it was off by more than a couple blocks and on the wrong side of the road!

For my desktop, I prefer Google maps. The satellite overlay feature is pretty cool.

I haven't used a mobile map program yet, but I'll give Mapquest a shot.

While reviewing the Sprint Nextel i930, I had tried out the MapQuest navigation solution, it was pretty decent. And was amazed that the map download was pretty fast.

My take, this service is aimed at dumb phones, that cannot handle map storage and don't have capability and power to run third-party apps.

And I don't like the monthly subscription cost.

Routes can be optimized for speed or distance when driving, or for pedestrian routes when you're traveling by foot.

Why can't we have this on the desktop??
