The GPRS indicator has never switched over to E for the Edge Network. I called TMO and they confirmed that Edge is active in my area. I searched the HowardForums and they say that you have to manually tweak the registry to enable the feature. That is where I get lost. I called TMO wireless support and all they say is that the phone will automatically switch between networks. But that is not what our brothers around the forums say. Can anyone give me instructions on how to make this adjustment ?[/b]

However, I have heard rumblings as of late that the registry setting doesn't change anything other than the icon. Your device is using Edge, it just isn't showing the icon. Do a speed test now, and then after the change. Chances are good that there will not be any difference.

Mike is right though, the registry tweak, when it works only enables the icon. The phone is using EDGE when it finds it.
See what kind of speed you are getting here

got it to work. I agree the speed seems the same. It is just anoying that it does not switch back and forth right out of the box.

What download speed are you guys getting? I just got off the phone with T-mobile because 4 diffferent sites clocked my d/l at 30-40 kbit/sec. Tier 2 support denies ANY problem and said that my SDA is Edge capable and I'm in a strong coverage area so the problem is the sites I visted were not geared towards mobile phones and that was the problem even though two of the download sites were places they recommended!!

I just ran the test four or five times and I am getting speeds over 100kbit/sec. My highest was 149kbits/sec and my lowest was 106.

I get things comparable to Mark, though certainly not consistantly. It is dependant on where I am. I've never bothered with the E hack BTW.

i live in an area with edge and to be honest it took a couple days for the phone to start displaying the E icon. at first i thought i would have to tweak the registry as well but it appears that both the SDA and the 2125 have to be trained to pick up EDGE over GPRS.
when it came to my phone (2125) the E icon just popped up one day while driving to my girlfriends house and it hasn't left since. Every now and then I'll drop to the G icon but in my area it's pretty much always on E.
My friend has the SDA and to get his phone to display the E he just stood in an area he knew was close to an EDGE tower and kept surfing the web until it popped up. Now just like my phone he almost always has the E icon. No registry tweaks involved :)
EDIT: right now im connected at 200kbps according to the orb speed test :)
