Ok, this may be a stupid newb question. Can I use AIM on my phone where it pops up instantly as it would on my desktop? Do I need third party software? I have tried Yahoo, but there were two version I think where one does it but charges for text messages, and the other, I have to keep checking it like email so I see no benefit. can anybody help me? Recommend something. I have cingular and I don't even know if I am charged text message rates for instant. HELP
Thanks y'all

AOL does not have a SP specific version, and their PPC version is not WinMo5 capable.
I havent used this, but look here http://www.shapeservices.com/eng/im/SP/
IM+ is WinMo5 aware and does AIM, Yahoo, ICQ etc in the same package - much like Trillian on the desktop.

Try AgileMessenger. The best looking program IMO. Not sure if it will remain free forever. But I'd be willing to pay $20-30 for the app if they ever get out of beta.
It currently uses data (GPRS/EDGE) to transfer messages but I will not use it if it moves over to text message version. :)

So, it charges as data not as text message? Is that right? also, I am using a 2125 with WM5 and it says it will have a version soon. So I downloaded the 2003 versiona and it works but it's very small on my screen and I cant figure out how to make it run bigger. But just so long as I am not gonna have a whopping bill, youre saying it charges for data transfer and doesnt count as a text message, right? Thanks

Data and not Text. But yes....it was made for 2003 devices and before with 176 x 220 resolution so you'll need to wait for a WM5 and QVGA upgrade (forgot about that actually).

I just installed the AgileMessenger for Smartphones ("ALPHA" build... so caution) and it is working flawlessly so far.
I used it to sign into both my Yahoo and MSN messenger accounts, and it shows all my contacts, etc (if you have a lot of contacts, the option to only show contacts who are online is cool).
Since it does both MSN and Yahoo, I can see using this rather than the built-in MSN client, unless Microsoft and Yahoo get far enough along in their IM integration that the mobile MSN messenger can talk to Yahoo messenger users. If that happens, well.. we'll see which one I like better ;)
