Eye On Thief is designed to keep you and your Smartphone together. It watches the SIM card in the phone, and if it determines that the SIM card has been changed, it will start to send out SMS messages to the number you configured in the app. Once you receive that SMS, you'll have the phone number of the person who stole your phone and I think that would be really helpful in getting your device back. :D You can download a trial version or purchase a copy for $7.99 from our Affiliate store.

But wouldn't you need a second phone to receive the SMS on?

Yes. Wifes, friends, etc...

That's utterly brilliant.

What fool would steal a phone and then put a legit SIM card in it?

Well... If you think about it, most people won't keep a stolen phone to begin with. They'll sell it or try to trade it in...

At least that's been my experience in the business... Since carriers won't track IMEIs and can't disable them (or at least Cingular and T-Mobile can't / won't), at least this will tell you who has your phone.

I still think it's a great piece of software. It's not guaranteed to get you your phone back, but at least it's one more hoop that a would-be crook would have to jump through.

I don't think that's too unrealistic. I would expect that most thieves aren't as tech savvy as we are. Thus, they wouldn't think twice about using their newly acquired phone.

Just a quick second thought... It's also not unrealistic to assume that the person stealing the phone won't assume that there's some kind of "phone home" software installed on it. Even if he was tech saavy, he would have to put his SIM in to turn the phone on. By the time he did that, too late... SMS sent.

I hope they come out with a PPCPE version of this util because I really like the idea.

EDIT: Scratch that. After going to their site, I realize they do in fact have it for a PPC also. Neato!

Well if my phone was stolen I wouldn't want it back after some low life had their hands ears and mouth all over it. I'd just get a new one.

New version fixed bug.
Unregistered version of Eye On Thief can be used without any time limitation. The only difference from registered version is it can only send 3 SIM contacts.

I couldn't get this working before, and still can't.

I copy the cert.cab and the lockappen.exe to my phone. Install the .cab, then run the exe. The EXe gives an error that the phone can't find a signal or is in flight mode, which is incorrect. the phone has full signal at the time.

I sent an email to the dev some time ago, but never received a response. Anyone get t his working?

What os is your os, wm 5 or 2003? I guess it should be wm5, please unlock your device at once, then try it again.

Cert.cab is a sign cab which help Eye on thief to get the imsi of sim card. Unfortunately it can't work in the wm 5 os. Thanks

I lost my HTC S620 three weeks ago in a club. The person who found it was a total prick. Sad thing is that he couldn't use it because the phone was locked (5 digits). Phone was really reliable. Just waiting on the release of the S710 now.
