It is narrower than the Motorola Q, and feels lighter as well at only 95 grams. The I320 has individual keys for every letter, but allows you to press multiple keys for numeric dialing. The keys are rather small, but they are sharply raised at the middle, making them easier to use."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20060213-SamsungQwerty.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br />Hats off to Samsung! This is one nice looking device. I think Motorola spilled the beans too early, and now others have been able to trump the Q with a thinner, and better looking device! The I320 features a landscape QVGA screen, Bluetooth, 1.3 MegaPixel Camera, a MicroSD slot, and Windows Mobile 5 with MSFP.<br /><br /><b>Update:</b> According to this <a href="http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/6496.html">InfoSync article</a> the I320 will be a Tri-band GSM based phone with support for EDGE. It will also sport stereo speakers, Office file viewers, and a 120MB on-board memory! 8O :D They also have a nice close-up of the keyboard - just click on the thumbnail to see the high-resolution images.<br /><br /><b>Another Update:</b> Arne Hess over at the::unwired has posted some <a href="http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=2902#article">pictures</a> of the I320 - in case anyone is interested. ;)<br /><br /><b>One More Update:</b> This time, it's a great picture I found at MobileBurn. It shows a spoon, the Samsung i320, and then the Moto Q - in that order. Take a look and you'll be surprised at how <a href="http://www.mobileburn.com/news.jsp?Id=2049">small the Samsung really is.</a>

I wish Motorola could just find the beans! Knowing Samsung I would bet this is a much better made device than the Q. I think it looks better too.

I hope Cingular will be getting this one. Looks very nice.

unfortunately spilling the beans doesn't mean much in the U.S., as we are generally locked in to whatever (, and whenever) our carrier deems to choose. Unless of course it means carriers will choose the Samsung over the Motorola. Of course it would be nice if the carriers would just offer the choice and consumers could pick what fits them best....nah, never gonna happen.

I just added a link in the original post, to the::unwired where you'll find some more pictures of the device. :D

It'd be really cool if this were a slider!

Why on earth is it Tri-Band GSM?

For an enterprise market when will the manufacturers learn that Quad-Band and world wide roaming are good things to have on the specs.

My complaints:

1) It's ugly
2) Tri-band
3) No UMTS/HSDPA

Besides that, not such a bad device, although I am not a big Samsung fan after their previous Windows Mistakes [the (also ugly) i600 &amp; the (stunning yet 5.0-less) i300].

Hopefully this phone will mark the end of bad decision making for Samsung.

It has a very interesting keypad. The buttons have two characters/function and I wonder how the numeric key pad works, it has big square box around four keys and each is numbered. I am not sure if I described what I am looking at properly, but you get the idea. ;-) Check the Infosync's second photo.

It doesn't really matter if it's only Tri band, as long as they have a version for North America and one for EMEA. Quad band would be ideal, but I'm sure that would add to the cost of the device. And chances are pretty good that a very small percentage of people actually travel across the pond and need the other band.

I was looking at that. I think what it's saying is that you can push any of the 4 buttons in that square when dialling. But that's just a guess. :S

That would be pretty cool device. :) It wouldn't be as thin though. :(

I'm so tired of US companies early "announcement" blubber. One thing I love about Apple. When they announce something, its on the shelves the next day. Granted its not sufficiently stocked, but its there.

Atleast wait for a prototype before turn on the spotlight. Motorola and HP put something on display its probably little more than a plastic artists rendition.

Funny enough, Motorola announced a couple months back, that they will be adapting the Apple way of doing announcements. I'm guessing they took this approach when they found out Samsung had taken their idea for a BlackBerry Killer.

I am in that small percentage of people. :-(

I say if it's GSM it should just be Quad Band.

Any announcements yet about which carrier (USA) might carry it?

If it were to come out on T-Mobile soon, I just might wait for that instead of the MDA or SDA.

Samsung received a lot of ink recently for hiring a bunch of young designers who were charged with bringing some style throughout the product line. This must be their first phone product. As a former owner of the totally styless i600, it is hard to believe this new product is from the same company. If they beat the illusionary Moto Q, so much the better.

The Q may turn out to be a phantasm anyway at this rate.

I really hope this comes to market before the Q. I would love to see Samsung sweep in with a smaller device than the Q and steal Motorola's marketshare.

It would serve Motorola right for saying it will be released soon and then continually pushing the release date back. That is why you should never announce a phone until it is only a few month prior to release. Silly Motorola, why would you tip your hand to you competitors???

Sorry just venting... :P
