The tip solves my biggest problem: I have QVGA screen + EDGE + pIE on my Smartphone but browsing is still a pain. To scroll the page I have to use the joy stick which is slow. This tip overcomes the problem by creating keypad shortcuts for page up, page down, page top and page bottom etc. 8) Thanks <a href="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=64375#64375">encece,</a> for pointing out this tip. So get your mobile registry editors out and add these settings. Since backup tools are not available, please be careful while modifying the registry. And <i>gpcarreon</i> has a solution for the Windows Mobile 2003 SE users also, check out the Windows Mobile 2003 SE fix over <a href="http://www.gpcarreon.com/?p=224">here.</a> <!> <br /><br />I added the following KeyMaps on my Smartphone:<br />• Key pad button 2 (Value name: 50) -> Page up (DWORD value: 1)<br />• Key pad button 8 (Value name: 56) -> Page down (DWORD value: 2)<br />• Key pad button 3 (Value name: 51) -> Page top (DWORD value: 3)<br />• Key pad button 9 (Value name: 57) -> Page bottom (DWORD value: 4)<br />• Key pad button 5 (Value name: 53) -> Full screen toggle (DWORD value: 12)<br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Kris-Jan06-RegPIE.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/>

Once you hook up the KeyMaps...you start flying! 8)

Wonder why Microsoft never enabled this out of the box? :?

The greatest tweak yet! Fantastic...

Now, possible to add 'Show Pictures' toggle button as well? Or, how about a button to toggle through the 3 different views? That would really comlete the package. Wait, no tabs would, but that's not possible.

What would make this better is if you could map it to the volume up / down button. I never use that thing anyway.

I think no one uses those buttons. It would be better if hardware manufacturers substitute those buttons for a jog wheel or something simmilar for scrolling.

I added the following KeyMaps on my Smartphone:
• Key pad button 2 (Value name: 50) -> Page up (DWORD value: 1)
• Key pad button 8 (Value name: 56) -> Page down (DWORD value: 2)
• Key pad button 3 (Value name: 51) -> Page top (DWORD value: 3)
• Key pad button 9 (Value name: 57) -> Page bottom (DWORD value: 4)
• Key pad button 5 (Value name: 53) -> Full screen toggle (DWORD value: 12)

Do you have any other keycode values? Ie, for *, 0, and #?

1-9 are easy enough to extrapolate from the above.

48/49 will map to 0/1

I don't think there is anything for */# unfortunately. :(

Crud. I wanted to have top/up/down/bottom along the right edge. :(

Has anyone noticed that sometimes going to the bottom of a page will click on the bottom link even if you don't want it to?

I tried this and, at first glance, it looks great...

BUT...

When visiting pages that have WAP style numerical menus (MEdiaNet for example), using the numerical keys for navigation also have the undesired effect of selecting menu items.

Great idea, but not all it's cracked up to be

Thanks encece, I enabled the *, 0 and # to perform the switch between display modes - single column, default and desktop. :-)

Thoughts I'd just add that with my *lowly* :D Windows 2003 phone I was also able to use this option as well using the provided link. For others that try this, I don't know why, but it maps the fast up-down to the *-# respectively instead of the 3-# as noted by the author's web site.

Great! I also learned how to application unlock my Qtek 8310 (couldn't figure out why it wouldn't let me create the key - until I found the RegEditSTG program and how to edit the security values).

How do you set 0 and # to change the display modes. That will be so useful.

These tips are wonderful.

encece posted a long list of different key values on the other page. Create a string value and name it to match the number code for a key. Set the value to 1 or 2 (for up and down). 8)

Sorry Mike I dont get this. How do I know what to put in the string value.

Basically I want to change the *, 0 and # buttons to switch between viewing modes. A previous poster has done it but I am not sure what I have to put to call those views. I can see which key codes to use. I basically need 48 and 119 Star (*)
and 120 Pound/Sharp (#) but how do I make them call that menu option.

Kris Kumar

Hey stuartforrest, I believe this is what you are looking for:

• Key pad button * (Value name: 119 ) -> Single Column (DWORD value: 11)
• Key pad button 0 (Value name: 48 ) -> Default (DWORD value: 9)
• Key pad button # (Value name: 120 ) -> Desktop (DWORD value: 10)

DWORD value 10 is for Desktop mode, 9 is for Default and 11 is for Single Column. Feel free to swap the DWORD values between the key pad value names, if you don't like the current *, 0, # assignments. ;-)

Is there a way to map keys in Outlook so that one may have the page-up and page-down functionality in Outlook as well as in IE? I'd also like to configure some buttons to delete, reply, and forward emails, and to send/receive.

I wish there was a way. Maybe in the next version of Windows Mobile.

BTW, this is where the Moto Q scroll wheel really comes in handy.
