If you have/had a Pocket PC, chances are good that you've seen his work at one time or another. Juni must have been really good last year because Santa brought him a shiny new Qtek 8310. Now, with his new device in hand, Juni is creating some cool new home screens for us to enjoy. <br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20060110-Juni-Organizer.gif" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br /><i>Organizer</i> is the first in, what I hope will become, a long history of fantastic home screens. Can you tell I'm excited? I've been a big fan of his work for a long time, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what he can do on the Smartphone. And so far, I like! :D Head on over to <a href="http://www.kolumbus.fi/anders.ruohio/skinz.html">Juni's website</a> to download your copy.

What's really great is that he added a highlight color (yellow) to the icon selections in the start menu that stands out clearly (on that yucky Cingular blue logo) so you can see exactly which icon you are on. AWESOME. Now, if he'd just change the start menu background to the same as the home screen, I'd be in heaven! :D
Thank you :). I am still new to xml, but getting better. The next one is already under work :). I'm going to add smartmonitor support to it. Is that a popular plugin?

If you are talking about a memory and battery plugin I'll be the first to get it! :) I think that is a very popular item.

Hey can you just put a little bit in here for dummies on how to apply these things.
I'm taking a quick break because I've had a STRESSFUL week. I think a new homescreen will perk me up.

No problem. Juni has choosen to store everything in one zip file. All you need to do is copy the contents of the Zip file (excluding the readme.txt) to the \application data\home\ folder on your Smartphone. Then hit Start \ Settings \ Home Screen and pick Organizer or Organizer Facade. That's it!

Sweet! Nice to see you doing work for the smartphone. I've been a big fan of your work sinceI got my Dell Axim X5, 3+ years ago (I think thats when it was, it has been too long!). Dashboard, Wisbar (or was it Icbar, I forget) and many others have graced my PPC screen. Thanks for all your work!
This is also great timing, I should be getting my SP5 Thursday and look forward to firing up some Juni originals on my screen once again.

Maybe I am slow and I missed it on Juni's site, but will these work on the lowly SMT-5600 non-QVGA?

I haven't even looked at the readme - does it say the same thing I just said about installation? No worries. I don't mind answering the question. I mean, when you're already at 5000+ posts, what's one or two here and there? ;)
Cheers! Hope the week gets better for you soon. :D

Nope, sorry. Juni's work is scaled for the new QVGA devices.

You can tell Juni is still getting familiar with the different homescreen method. That one is just....without trying to sound like an utter d***...okay. I'm looking forward to seeing what he puts out when he's comfortable with XML. Sure to be cool.
(I still sounded like an arse, but you get my point!)
There is two versions of the homescreen so you can't just put the contents of the zip file in to \Application data\Home. Read the readme.txt anyway :).
I'm discovering a whole bunch of plugins I didn't know about :D.

Awesome work...
I added a second skin to the site.
It has two version. For the Facade one you'll need Facade, Smartmonitor and FizzWeather/Traveller. The standard one works with standard plugins :)

The i300 doesn't have a QVGA screen or run Windows Mobile 5, so this home screen won't work on your device.
Check out some of thehome screens (http://smartphone.kleinweder.ch/downloads/index.php) that kleinweder has built. There are lots of Windows Mobile 2003 screens there. Just make sure you select Smartphon 2003 from the category menu. :D

Juni's homescreens have finally made me look fondly on my C600 and I've also finally invested in Fizz Traveller to make them work.
What a fantastic pair of discoveries :D
Have also just noticed Encece's Vista-ish skin for WM05 so wil try that too !

Juni! I will donate everytime I use one of your homescreens. Clarity is awesome.
I have a question...I like my homescreen and backgrounds to match.
Can you email me a blank copy of the homescreen gif?
That way I can make it into a .bmp and point the background registry key to it.
I will PM you with my email address. If that isn't to forward.
You got it :). What is the registry tweak for changing the start menu background? Does it work with WM5?

I've got to agree - I just got Clarity for my new Cingular 2125, and it is wonderful. I went back to Clarity (my favorite skin that I had on my HP h1935) on my HP hx4700, replacing Magento. The Clarity skin is QVGA and is a bit pixellated on my VGA screen, but who cares? I need my PDA and Smartphone to match
I'd also be interested in my start menu background matching my theme - any possibility of sharing the knowledge of how to do so? As much as I love the )*( Cingular guy, I prefer Juni's work ;)
Keep up the good work, Juni! 8)

Reg tweak? I thought it was just a entry in the XML. If the Home Screen settings page is set to defualt for backgroud, then it should automatically use the background specified in the XML.

You can set the start menu background in the xml? All I get are gradients.
Edit:
I did some digging on the net and figured out how to do it. I added a starmenu background image in my latest skin and included instructions on how to change it (do it at your own risk, it involves registry tweaking!)

Sniff, I'm falling behind on the cool stuff now that I don't have a QVGA phone.
Anyone have any good advice on convincing the wife I need a new smartphone when the one I have is perfectly fine? :) I suppose to get a really nice home screen wouldn't do it, would it?
Craig
I fixed a small bug in Panorama where it showed textmessages with white text on a white background (strange problem, apparently textmessages use the menutext color for text but the window color for background - whereas email messages don't).

Man...you're pumping them out quick now! Another nice one. Just downloaded and installed.

I was playing around with the (free) RJTime plugin. I made a version of the skin using it. Not as practical but fun :).

I must be behind. When did Facade's launcher wind up as a tab? Or is that selectable in the xml? I have got to get more into xml. I like the MRU bar, but can't stand the size it is by default. It appears that is variable too. Arrgh. Really don't want to be a programmer just to get my HomeScreen the way I want it.

Another winner!
Great stuff. I'm using the ChromiumFacade version and I really like the look and the functionality.
I had to do a bit of editing to the XML file because I had the plug-ins on my storage card. I also used Sven's edit for increasing the text size in Facade.
What I'd like to do now is is remove the default program icon bar and increase the space available for Facade.

I'm sure everyone has visited the re-done Microsoft Windows Mobile site or seen the ads. I wanted to emulate the green theme they use :)

My SP5 doesn't show the monitor items at the very bottom. Loaded and reloaded SmartPhinger SmartMonitor. That's the right thing, right? Even bought FizzTraveler to get the coolness of this latest skin.
Oh, and the icons and tab highlights are missing on the Facade tabe bar. Bet that's a missing or misplaced set of pictures.
Did you copy everything over to your device according to instructions? I can only promise that they work on WM5 QVGA devices since I don't have any other kind of smartphone. I think you have to change some paths in the xml code if you have a WM2003 device.

Got the facade stuff worked out. I did have the MSGreen_sm folder in \Application Data\Home instead of in \Application Data\Home\monitor. fixed that and the icons and highlights in facade are right. did reboot, and go off the green theme and back, but the monitor stuff still doesn't show up. All the bmps are there that you reference. Strange. It's an iMate SP5 BTW
Did they sneakily come out with a new version of smartmonitor? You have the same device I do and it works for me. Strange...

Well just for completeness, I switched to the SmartMonitor Theme that gets installed with SM. It doesn't show the monitors either, so there is something inherently wrong, likely nothing with your theme. (Not like I thought there was or might be. I figured it was my config somehow)

I don't think you can change the colour on one screen like that. You would have to change entire background colour - I think.

I'm looking to adjust my home screen on my cingular 3125 (WMSP 5.0). I have a background image that I use for my home screen which I don't want to change. What I do want to change is the size of the quick buttons at the top of the default screen. They are currently regular, but I want them to be a medium size.
From what I can assess, this will change those, but will not let me keep my personalized picture as a home background image.
Sorry for the dumb questions, but I am new to this as this is my first 5.0 device. the old 2003 was easy.
I am also trying to figure out how to change to a list rather than the 3 pages of icons when you hit the start key.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
I made this one in case Apple would give me trouble over the iPhone skin. :)
This one also has two versions, one for Facade and one without.

Nice Work! I love 'em
I didn't want the first landscape skin to be a conversion, rather a new one. I call it OrganizerBlue. It has two versions, one of which uses phoneAlarm (since the screen doesn't have much height I wanted something which has as much info squeezed into it as possible :) ) and FizzTraveller. The alternative skin uses only Facade and is plugin friendly if you want to define your own in the Facade settings (nothing is glued to the background image).
The phoneAlarm using skin:

..and the Facade only skin:

Very nice skin. I've installed the iPhone landscape skin on my HTC S620 (T-Mo Dash). Are the icons for sms, email and voicemail selectable? I can scroll down from the top to bottom. When I get to the icons, I see a white left pointing arrow but when I try to scroll to the right, I cannot highlight the icons and select them. Is this normal?
Are the icons for sms, email and voicemail selectable?
No, you can only select the whole plugin.
I cannot highlight the icons and select them. Is this normal?
Yes, however, with the plugin selected you can use the action button and the messaging app should open. :)
