I would like to start using my phone/BT GPS as my primary GPS system.
I am looking for a good way to mount the phone in my truck. Alot of the system out there assume the phone has a swivel clip or is in a case with a swivel clip. This place has almost what I am looking for, however I am not sure how to attach the phone to the mount. I am also afraid they would interfere with the gear shift (for my truck, they list it for auto. trannys only). VSM Mounts from Pro-Fit (http://www.pro-fit-intl.com/vsm.html)

(Pardon the Sony Ericsson T637 in the cubby hole)
Any thoughts or ideas? (I would rather stay away from the windshield mount stuff if possible)

Thanks,
~Rob

My favorite mounting solution comes from ProClip, http://www.proclipusa.com/Default.asp The part I like best is their bracket (or brackets). The are individually designed for your particular vehicle, and are exceptionally secure without being permanent. Once you have the bracket on, you can shop around for actual holders for your device. I happen to have an Arkon universal mounted on my ProClip bracket in my Jeep. I have the universal because I have an assortment of things I use it for.

Still, take a look at the ProClip stuff. They do have an SMT specific holder, and it can be paired with a swivel and the bracket for your vehicle.

Good. If you get one, take a bit of time with the instructions and fit the vehicle mount pieces together, if there are more than one, before you dive in. Took me a few minutes to figure out the Jeep one up front, but then it was less than 5 minutes to mount it in the Liberty. I could pull it out in less than 5 minutes too and you'd never know it had been there.

Thanks for the tips, will do. Just ordered the bracket for my truck, the swivel mount and the holster for the SMT5600 :)
My only concerns are that it might block the a/c vent a little (Oh well, Texas doesn't get too hot   ) and how the fit will be with the after market stereo I have.

WOW!! Great company to deal with.
I ordered 3 pieces on Thursday the 22nd: Mount for my truck, swivel mount and SMT5600 holster. Received email immediately that my order was received. Checked my email on Friday the 23rd and had an email from them that said the holster was backordered, did I want the rest of my order shipped now or wait until everything was in?. I called to see if they had the universal holster/mount in stock and to see if I could change my order to get that instead of the SMT5600 holster. The lady said yes, the universal mount was in stock. She said it would be best to cancel my original order and place a new one. She cancelled the original order over the phone. I hung up, placed a new order online and within a minute I had 2 emails from them. One stated that my original order was cancelled and one stated that my second order had been received. They are quick. Later last night, I got another email stating that my order had shipped and it included a DHL tracking number. I requested normal ground shipping. 15 minutes ago, a DHL van dropped a package on my door, it was my stuff!!!!
Incredible, about 24 hours from the time I ordered it online until the merchandise (the correct merchandise as well, no errors there) was in my hands. Not too bad, especially since I figured I would get it next week because of ground shipping.
Will let you know later today how the fit is, as I haven't gone outside yet.
That place has my business.
Thanks again Sven!! :)

I assembled everything in the house and installed the mount in the truck. It took about 4 seconds to install it into my 2002 Dodge Ram 2500, as it just clips into place. Fit is very good, seems nice and tight, for something that clips into place. No dash pieces to remove, no screws to drill or anything. Clip it in and go. I am very happy with it so far. I haven't driven with it yet, so that will be the last test. My truck is a 4x4 diesel (in other words, not the smoothest riding vehicle on the planet). The first test drive will tell how well it works. If there are no rattles and it doesn't shake loose (and I am not expecting this to happen), I will give the thing 5 out of 5 stars.

Great. The Jeep one is two pieces. One clips in horizontally and the other clips in vertically. The two pieces are then fastened together with some self tapping screws. Still nothing screwed or permanently fastened to the vehicle, and removal would be easy. That's the nice thing about these. Each one is designed for the vehicle bought for, not a one type fits all.

Again, this is with the swivel mount that is mounted to the plate and then the universal mount mounted to the swivel mount. I still would like to get the SMT5600 holster, but I will see how this works out. I think the holster might actually hold it higher than I would like, I like the positioning of the phone with the universal mount, I just don't like the little "button" I had to stick on the back of the phone to use it with the universal mount.

Took the first test drive today. Really impressed. I really like the positioning of the phone with the universal mount, am now considering not getting the SMT5600 holster. No squeaks, no jumping around, held solid and did not rotate in the universal mount as advertised.
The only issue I have is that the "button" that goes into the universal holder is not universal. I have other gadgets that have a button on them but they will not fit in the holster (Garmin GPS, Motorola 2 way radios, etc).
Still, I give it 5 out of 5
:rock on dude!:

The button you have to stick to the back of the item, will stick to any item..hence, it's universal ;)

Wow, that does look really cool. Nice design. :)

Would look even cooler holding a Cingular 2125 (hope I could see over the hump though)
Now I can't wait to get the CoPilotLive6 in that I ordered tonight. 8)
