View Full Version : 2125: Why I got it?

Okay thought I should write up a confession for buying the 2125 when I don't really need it. Well almost not really...

First the math:
List price $299, Thanks to my corporate account (FAN/Premier whatever) got a 40% discount, Price is now $179. And here is the kicker. With the 2 year service agreement $100 rebate, I will get it for $79. 8O 8)

I have been wanting to switch to Cingular, reason coverage (I am on T-Mobile) and also the 17% service discount on the monthly charge that I can get thru the corporate account can save some money.

I really - really want the Wi-Fi Smartphone. And I want the i-mate SP5.

T-Mobile may have plans to launch one. But then I will have to sign a T-Mobile contract. And I will end up losing more on monthly charges. Also don't know when T-Mobile will have the Smartphone. Plus the hump issue. I think Cingular has done a better job of hiding the hump.

Next : I will lay low for a couple of months. i-mate SP5 (the black one) will become available. Price will come down. And maybe I will win a lottery by then.....;-)

My 2125 will be arriving tomorrow. I want the SP5 as well. I don't really need the WiFi but it would be nice to have. The bottom line though Kris is we couldn't just sit here while Mike floated 3 feet off the ground with his stinking WM5 phone could we?

Oh! actually the real reason was that, I couldn't tolerate Mike's gloating.
And then I realized that you will be getting one (in fact yesterday you made it clear that you have one in the pipe). I didn't want to be the only outdated guy on this site.

I am a long-time palm user who just switched from an i500 to the 5600 three weeks ago. I ordered an upgrade to the 2125 last Tuesday, received it on Friday, and played with it for the last 4 days. I love just about everything about the phone (maybe not the hump), but the system font is just too small for me to read comfortably. And the large size is waaay too big. The joystick and the keypad are a great improvement, as is the system speed. The higher speed network is nice, but not hugely faster. Most of my software does not run well on WM5. And in the end, the 5600 does everything I want for now. So this one's going back.

Eeek! Glad that I still have the trusted SP3i (SMT5600).

I don't think you can go wrong for $79. Did you keep your number?

I'm sure some software I run now wont for a bit. I went though it when I got my 4705 and when I got the 6515. Within a short time in both cases all the software had been upgraded and ran fine. I have no doubt this will be the case here. 18 hours and counting. :)

The same number. :-) I have heard horror-stories. Hoping that mine would be smooth.

But yes at $79 I could say nothing but yes. ;-)

Since you guys are late to the party ;) most applications are working - or close to working.

I've actually had numerous emails with SOTI about Pocket Controller to fix issues with it. (It didn't work over Bluetooth, and didn't allow you to click the softkeys on the screen).

I've also had emails with Ilium over eWallet and Sync Pro. They're still working things out, but hopefully it won't be much longer.

ThinkOutside and Sprite have been working on WinMo5 versions for a while with nothing in site.

Talk about Customer Service. I was supposed to have gotten it on Friday. What a pleasant surprise. (After all the aggravation during the ordering process.)

Stop that! I'm getting nervous with you. Now we are both getting our phones today! We have to shut down the evil Mike Machine! His reign of terror ends today!

Kill some time, I'm installing the new Vista Beta at the moment.

Wait until you see the screen. I have died and gone to heaven.

While you are in there have some ice cream. Might make you feel better :)

Kris Kumar
12-22-2005, 02:15 AM
Okay..got the number ported over.

Cingular has better reception in my area. Thanks to 850Mhz.

The stupid browser is not working. It says opening and then reports an error.

Kris Kumar
12-22-2005, 03:02 AM
Yo Jerry is the Internet working. I see E but it doesnt work. I will have to check the GPRS setting. :-(

Kris Kumar
12-22-2005, 03:28 AM
EDGE definitely gives me the EDGE! 8)

The Internet is working. :-) Had to register for Media Net.

Jerry Raia

Looks like we are up and running. A few programs don't work right because of the HUGE screen but thats ok. I'm impressed so far :)

Kris Kumar
12-22-2005, 05:09 AM
I have not installed a single app. Focussing on the i930. :-( This Smartphone was supposed to get here this Friday.

But I do find that the Internet connection is not working properly. It works for 5 mins. Then dies or rather gets stuck at "opening...". Reboot the phone. Works fine.

I am sure it is a problem at my end and nothing to do with the 2125.

Kris Kumar
12-22-2005, 05:11 AM
But love the EDGE and the screen.

Jerry Raia
12-22-2005, 05:14 AM
So far I have had no problems with it. Check all the settings (I know you know that) On the Internet Connections Menu I have "automatically detect settings" checked and for network "the internet". That is not how it came out of the box btw. Until i changed those i wasn't connecting either.

Kris Kumar
12-22-2005, 12:53 PM
I did change. Found the out of the box setting strange.

But when it works the speed rocks! Makes surfing useful. Can't wait to tie in my Pocket PC to this.

Oh! now I want to get a new Pocket PC, the one with the VGA screen. I cannot tolerate anything lesser. ;-)

Are there any different settings that allow you to get edge? I still see a G on my SP5m instead of the E and I'm not really sure which speeds I'm getting.

Jerry Raia
12-24-2005, 03:43 AM
Mine is always an "E" so far.

Kris Kumar
12-24-2005, 05:24 AM
Did you call up the Cingular people and talk to them about whether or not EDGE is available?

As far as I know EDGE is nationwide on Cingular. But still there may be gaps.

As far as setting goes, no. There is no switch for E vs G. :-(

In the morning at work, I did see G, where I would usually see an E. But put the phone in flight mode and then turned back on. Got the E. That was the only time I saw E.

Kris Kumar
12-24-2005, 05:27 AM
But I do see some problems with the data radio stack. Since it tries to persist an E connection (just like with G), when I switch towers or in areas with low signal, once I get an error, I have to end the E session (by double clicking the hang-up key on the home screen and make sure the little E is gone). Then life is back to normal.
