Maniac's Smartphone Tools offers a handy automatic keylocker for your Smartphone. It works on both Windows Mobile 5 devices and Windows Mobile 2003/SE and has lots of configurable settings, including an ignore list, device lock (instead of just keylock), and different timeouts for the home screen versus an application. If that wasn't enough to get you interested, it also offers a simple screen saver that shows off the time and the number of missed calls / emails.

The program is "donation-ware", so please remember to give whatever you can if you enjoy using Maniac's application. ;)

This tool is second only to the bluetooth shortcut tool in terms of usefulness. With this tool, the appeal of WM5 is slightly reduced, as I really like the clock/date/missed call screen, which is on WM5, not WM2K3SE.

So can you hold down on a particular key (like the call hang-up button) to lock up the keypad. Or is this app timeout based?

It only displays the time/screensaver after the chosen timeout period, but you can still lock your device (keypad or device lock) and it'll go to the screensaver after the timeout period.

I also figured out (maybe this is already widely known) that if you press the volume up/down keys while it's in screensaver mode, the backlight will turn on. This makes it easy to take the phone out of my pocket and check the time. :)

Great app! :D

I have noticed a little bug when I try and lock the keys myself. Usually, I would just hold the Hang Up key from the home screen and the keys would lock in a couple seconds. However, with this installed, I noticed that it doesn't always work on the first try. Second time works, just the first time doesn't. :(

BTW, what is the option "Suppress key presses" for under Screen saver?

And how about the option "Unlock Automatically" under Excludes in the General option?

This little bug only happens after I unlock from the screen saver+keypad lock from this program. The first try will fail no matter I am on the Homescreen or other programs. It only fails in the first attempt to lock the keypad by pressing and holding the hangup key.

Another bug. Under Special Profiles, in profile of Charge, if I select enable Bluetooth, the bluetooth is still on even I unplug the charging cable.

I am a little rusty on installing .cab files
I have the .cab file on the PC, but where do I put it on the phone?
Or do I run the setup.exe file that is in the cab file? (When I run that .exe, I am asked to install somewhere, but the Smartphone is not shown as a location to install things to)

Uh, never mind, repeat after me:
The search button is my friend, the search button is my friend

Ok, I put the cab file in the accessories folder on the phone and installed it, can I delete anything now (like the cab file)?

Just copy the cab file to any folder/location on your smartphone. I use \Storage Card\ Then, from the phone open, File Explorer, and browse to that file, highlight it, and click Action. :)

The cab file will be removed by itself.

BTW, from the screen shot, I saw a clock on the top bar. Can someone tell me what kind of program it is and where I can download it?

thanks

This looks tempting - is Maniac him/herself on here? I've a couple of Qs:

1. This doesn't actually install on my unlocked, bought-without-contract SP5. I see "Installation was unsuccessful. The program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permissions". Rather odd.

2. I can't entirely get a grip on what this does - after a set time period it will apply the standard system keylock, is that right? It doesn't use its own lock? So the problem I mentioned on another thread with reminders dismissing themselves will still exist?

Any help appreciated,

Chris

If Maniac is here, please stand up. :turn-l: I don't see him/her. ;) It's worth asking - you would be surprised with who reads this site. ;) 8)

This should fix that problem - http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9616

Good question. Yes it just applies the system keylock. Nothing special or unique. As for the appointments, I don't think it will make a difference, but I haven't tested that.

Now he is here

Regarding the questions:

The problem with manual keylock not working for the first time after autometic keylock is fixed in the latest version.
The reminder dismissing will still exist - and I see no way how to prevent that :(
Regarding the Bluetooth problem: I will have a look into that. But please note that if BT was active before charging, it will also be active after unplugging the charger.
The "Unlock automatically" option under excludes is meant for automatic keypad unlock if an excluded app comes to the foreground. Example: You use some sort of scheduler to start the WMP to wake you in the morning. To stop the music being played, you have to press a key. If this option is not set, you have to first unlock the keypad. If this option is set and WMPlayer.exe is excluded, the keypad lock is removed automatically.
The "Suppress key presses" option is meant for people who only use the screen saver and not the keypad lock: If this option is set and the screen saver is active, a key press only disables the screen saver and does nothing more.

Welcome! :)

Woo Hoo! As small as this bug sounds, it was really annoying for me. I'm off to download the latest version.

Great work Maniac!

Just a quick follow-up to this. I downloaded the latest version (back on Dec 23 or so) and it works like a dream!

Great work Maniac! 8)

Great program. How do you set it so that you can activate the keylock manually ? Presently, it locks automatically after mu home screen shuts off.

Mike Temporale

If you want to lock it manually, just hold down the end key on the homescreen. But I never do that anymore. I've got this app set to 30 seconds and I haven't had any problems since.

Perhaps a silly question but I can't figure it out - I've just installed the very latest version (3.86) and sure enough, after the minute or so, the keylock kicks in.

However, the screen turns out as it did before - how do I set it so that when the keylock kicks in, I can still see the time on the screen (during the screensaver) and the number of calls / texts I missed? (such as that shown on page 1 of this thread)? (I have ticked the 'Screen Saver' box).

Look under OPTIONS\Special Profiles\

Pick your profile and then select your options for that profile.

I'd like to see a way to change the temperature to Farenheit.
It reads Celcius now...
