What makes this phone so special to those of you living in the US, is that you can expect the Smartphone Cingular is to release in the next week or so to be pretty much the same as this device. (See our previous post on this for more information.) Take a chance now to get familiar with the device. You'll be seeing it again really soon - I hope. (Translation provided by Babel-Fish)

This might be my next Smartphone as I have been so happy with the 5600.

And this will probably be my next (and first) Smartphone, as I'm looking to switch to Cingular, and I'd really like a WM5 Smartphone.

How are the WiFi prospects holding out? The previous post (http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9556) mentioned possible WiFi with the top hump, but this review doesn't seem to have that.

Also without being too off-topic, could anyone recommend what data plan to use from Cingular? The all-you-can-eat data plan ($45/month I believe) is substantially more than T-Mobile's $20 one. And if I do get a data plan, I'd definitely like to connect my laptop and Pocket PC to it and utilize the EDGE/GPRS network for Internet connectivity.

Yeah if you want to use your phone as a modem you are kinda stuck. If you just wanted to use the phone (not as a modem) they have an unlimited plan for $20/month

:?: I use my SMT5600 as a modem for my Axim X50v via BT with the $20 MediaNet plan. Are you talking about something else?

sssh....;) this sounds like the T-Mobile mistake letting anyone use unlimited GPRS for free last year. In that case, $20 isn't too bad. I'll consider it. Thanks for the info.

heh, actually, I just chatted with a Cingular rep, and he infomred me that the Media Net packages do allow connection of a laptop (or Pocket PC) via Bluetooth to use the data connection.

Donald: MEdia Net packages offered: $4.99 for 1 MB; $9.99 for 5 MB; $14.99 for 10 MB; $19.99 for Unlimited Data. Each additional kilobyte above those included will be $0.01 each.
OSUKid7: And do those packages allow me to connect a laptop via Bluetooth to use the data connection?
Donald: Yes.

So that's good news. :) Now to get a WM5 phone and I'll swich by mid December hopefully.
