Available in late November, the Motorola i930's cosmetics are attractive enough, with its metallic keypad set against a jet-black background. The handset also feels rugged enough to take a great deal of physical punishment."</i> <br /><br />The reviews are starting to show up on the Internet for the new Motorola i930 Smartphone. This one is pretty lightweight review covering off most of the things we already know about the device. Overall, they gave the phone a 3.8 out of 5. I think we'll have to wait a little longer before we can pass judgment on this device. Does anyone here have a i930?

My boss bought all of us one about four weeks ago. I guess I am confused about the available in late November thing, he bought them at a Sprint/Nextel retail store. Anyway, I've been happy with it. It is my first Smartphone. Too bad there is no Bluetooth, and too bad it is application locked, but otherwise it is serving well.

Also, this reviewer lists a plus of the iDen capable Blackberry as GPS navigation, but the i930 does that too.

Figures, another i600 nightmare.

It's even worse, at least with the i600 my "eVB" apps were able to install on it. But, with the i930 users are getting the error:

"Install Failed. The program or setting can not be installed because it is not digitally signed with a trusted certificate"

:confused totally:

Figures, another i600 nightmare.

Wondering if it requires applications signed by Sprint-Nextel or just signed applications would do? :?

I believe SMT5600 and MPx220 were/are also application locked.

Oh! Just remembered, MPx220 and SMT5600 needed the apps to be signed only if they were trying to access core system stuff like address books, send SMS or access network.

I agree about the "privileged" API's. But, both of my eVB apps install fine as-is on MPX220 and SMT5600's...one accesses poom and even sends SMS's (Alerts!), but the other one doesn't do either (Vnotes).

The strange thing is that the users who reported this error are the ones that tried to install Vnotes (that doesn't do anything special).

So, it appears the i930 is even stricter then that

Ah! Privileged API restriction/lock. Thanks. I totally forgot the term.

Greed and Security are once again creating head-aches for the Smartphone customers. Wondering what we have in store for the upcoming WM 5.0 devices?

The i930 I have seems to freeze about once every other day.

It does not have a decent set of Stereo Headphones or even comes with one. Nextel site supposedly has one for about $40. This is usually standard for any smartphone phone that cost upwards of $350.

The battery capacity is ok.

The network coverage is average and at times it takes a while to come back up. It seems to go trough a GSM detect first (since it it Shows a G for GPRS) before it switches to the iDEN network icon.

It is definitely app locked so 1/2 of apps I have for smartphone do not install here. It seems to steer you out of the freeware into the more expensive stuff in Handango...You'll be downloading trials alot to see which ones work and which ones do not.

Top portion hing seems flimsy and moves a bit too much.

When you sync with Outlook there are no clear intructions on how to enable PTT (Walkie Talkie Direct Connect) number fields so you can synchronize with i930. Had to do this manyally...

Now imagine having to support this on a large enterprise!!?? No way.

Did you find the "Radio Phone" field in Outlook? I have added it to my default list view for the PTT number.
