Did anyone notice the trial version on desktop will say it is expired already? I've never installed SmartPhoneNote before. The application on the phone works fine, however. Without the testing of sync with Outlook Notes, it is useless for the trial version.

That is unfortunate. For what it's worth, the sync works fine for me with XP sp2 and Outlook 2003 on my 5600.

That sounds like a bug to me. I'm sure the guys over at SyncData would love to know about it. Maybe they already have a fix for it? Here's the contact page (http://www.syncdata.it/support.html) :)

I have version 1.2 and its very good. I wanted to upgrade to version 2.0 but noticed it isn't supported on the new Orange phones at present. :(
What is the difference between version 2 and version 1.2? I don't see any listing of new features, etc.
I don't really see what could be different, as this is a pretty basic app, providing the Notes capability which Microsoft took out of the Smartphone version of WMobile.
In fact, it bugs me that there is a need for this applet. WindowsMobile for Pocket PC has always included the Notes applet of Outlook. Why was that removed from the Smartphone version? (Has Microsoft ever given a rationale for that?)
Do they (Microsoft) think that Smartphone users are not interested in the Notes applet? If so, they can just look at the fact that almost all Smartphone users end up buying Smartphonenotes, to make up for what they left out.
I'm surprised to read (in another post here) that even with WM5, Notes is not included in the Smartphone OS. That really sucks! (Originally, WM5 was supposed to eliminate the separate Smartphone OS, and use the same OS for both. What happened with that?)
I'd like to know why===Why is Notes not included in the Smartphone OS, although it is included in the PPC OS? Could anyone answer that question?
Possible that Syncdata pays Microsoft to keep Notes out of the Smartphone OS? (If it were included, Syncdata would go out of business.)

It is simple: there is no easy way on a Smart Phone to enter a few lines of text easily. On PPC, there is always either a soft keyboard or hardware keyboard. I really hate text input on phones. The only reason I'm even remotely interested in this app is that I can type some notes on my PC and sync it to the phone for reminders etc.

I think Foxbat121 is right. There just isn't an easy way to do this on the Smartphone. It may not be the best choice, but I would expect that they decided it wasn't worth the effort on the Smartphone. :(

Is it WM 5.0 compatible now?

According to their website (http://www.syncdata.it/sphnotes.html), yes it is. 8)
It looks like the most significant new feature is the ability to filter notes by category. This is my one complaint of the current version, I have 50 plus notes and it takes for ever to find some of them. As they're categorized in Outlook the ability to filter them on the phone will make it much easier to access them.

Does this app keep the category when it syncs either way?

Just an update on my previous issue with trial:
I just received email from SyncData that they've found the issue in their setup and updated the files on their website. I installed the new downloads and the trial version works correctly now on my PC.

The Smartphone version includes voicenotes which presumably MS thought was adequate for phone users lacking an alternative input method.

I completely disagree. A Smartphone is much more a reference device than a PocketPC, so the ability to enter Notes easily is not that much of an issue - the ability to view them is. Microsoft needlessly stripped out the ability to sync and view Notes, something everyone commented on in reviews when the C500 came out a year ago. I use Outlook Notes to store snippets of info that I'd love to be able to carry around, and hopefully SmartPhoneNotes now makes this possible.

I agree, hard to type notes on the Smartphone OS. I absolutely do not agree that this makes the notes app less important on the Smartphone than on the PPC.
Well, for one thing, one can easily input text with a Bluetooth keyboard.
However, in my case, I rarely input Notes information on the Smartphone or PPC (I have both) anyhow. I input the info on my computer, in Outlook, But I definitely want to sync the info to my devices for viewing. I even use the notes application for my shopping list, and look at it on the PDA, usually the Smartphone (with Smartphonenotes).
Just the fact that Smartphonenotes is probably the most bought Smartphone app is enough to demonstrate that most Smartphone users want this capability. So, it's good for the Syncdata company that the Smartphone OS doesn't include Notes, so people have to pay extra to buy Smartphonenotes, but it isn't fair for Smartphone users. Why is the Notes applet included in PPC OS, and not in Smartphone?
There's no reason to subtract functionality from an OS, because they think users won't use it. Let the users decide. If some don't use it, that's fine. But as said, it's obvious it would be used much by sp users, if one looks at sales of this 3rd party app.

I'll repeat again. Using the notes app does not mean that you enter the data on the phone keypad.
Do you use the app Smartphonenotes, Mike? (I assume so, since you are involved with this thread.) If so, you obviously think it was worth your money to pay extra to have the notes app, so what does that mean "it wasn't worth the effort". What effort, syncing notes from Outlook and reading on the phone?
Or is it that some writing want to help the Syncdata company, which would lose its biggest selling product, if the Notes applet was included in the Smartphone OS?
