can anyone provide any clues??
Never run into this, so I may not be of any help. A cab file should need to be associated with any program because it is it's own little program. I'd try a different cab file and see if you can get it to execute as perhaps the one you're working with has been corrupted or has a bad file name.
Good luck,

Are you sure the .cab file is for the Smartphone and not a Pocket PC?

i thought that there was a problem when copying the files over from my desktop to my phone to run....but:
i went to the mywindowsmobile web site to cutomise my phone - went through various things and was sent a .cab files via text message and guess what the file still won't run so there is a problem with my phone.

Oh... That's interesting. So maybe it's something you have installed on the phone - and not the PC as we thought before. What applications do you have? (You can easily locate them under Settings/Remove Programs. )

IMHO, there are a number of issues with SplashID. But we won't go there. ;)
By looking at that list, my first guess would be Resco Explorer. It has ZIP support, right? That could be the source of all this. I think I have a copy around here. I'll try and install it and see if it effects CAB files for me or not.

I use Resco Explorer on my 5600. Has never caused me any problems.

Well, I installed Code Wallet, REsco, and Profimail and CAB files still work fine. So it must be another app....

Well, Version 4.0 has a spot where you can check the conversion programs that are used for different file types. Perhaps you might want to try upgrading.
Disclaimer - version 4 isn't as stable (if that's even possible)

Just a thought. Can you look in your registry and see what is under the key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/.cab/Default
It should just say "cabfile"

I'm out of ideas at this point. Sometimes its quicker to cut your losses and start over. Like I am right now reinstalling Windows on my desktop! :really mad:
