Hi, I'm an old hand with traditional PDA's but have just purchased a Qtek 9100 running WM5 (and am loving it!). I'm trying to figure out how to change the phone skin; am I missing something or will I have to buy a program in order to do this? Thanks lots & am sorry if this is a total newb question.

Hey, no need to be sorry. Sounds like an honest questions to me. The problem is, that most - if not all, of us don't have a WM5 device yet. You're the first person I have seen comment about their new WM5 device. - Lucky!

My guess is that things aren't too different than before. What do you have under Start / Settings / Homescreen ?

Ah, the blessing and the curse of being an early adopter! :D Under the personal tab everything's pretty much the same except that there are now 3 more options: MSN Options, Phone, and Voice speed dial. I have tried to find it under phone options (as well as every other place I can think of) but there isn't a skin option that I can see.

Sorry for the delay. :D

I didn't realize you were talking about a Pocket PC device. So you need to disregard my previous suggestions. Sorry about that.

Now, when you're looking at the settings screen, tap on the Today icon. This is where you change your devices themes (under Pocket PC). Make sure you have the Appearance tab selected. In the center of the screen you will see a list of all the themes currently installed on your device. Highlight the one you want to use and press OK. Return to the today screen and everything should be good to go! 8)

If you wish to change the Today theme (including the taskbar and command bar colours), then Mike offers a good guide that's worth following.

If you wish to change the phone dialer skin, then that's a little more complicated. Most of these skins are released as installers (EXEs or CABs) which usually replace or add select files in the Windows directory. Unfortunately, if you don't have an installer to help you install the skin, it's very much a manual process copying files to and from the Windows directory. :(

Which skin were you hoping to install? A lot in the market aren't yet compatible with Windows Mobile 5.0.
