It is expected to be a Quad band GSM phone with EDGE, a QVGA screen, Bluetooth, a 2 mega pixel camera with flash, and have the similar dimensions to the Motorola RAZR. HTC Star Trek is 98.5 x 51.4 x 15.8mm while the RAZR is 98 x 53 x 13.9mm. Pretty amazing specs for HTC's first attempt at a flip phone. Oh, and the expected street date is March 2006. Start saving those pennies now!

Yeah but the dial pad seems a bit strange. I wish I could see more detail. I even tried to lighten up the image but it is still hard to make things out.

Looks to be one of those staggered key pad layouts, where 123, 456, 789 are not on the same horizontal line. Not conducive to quick entry, at least not until it's been used quite extensively, I would imagine. Too bad, as the clamshell should allow much more room for keys compared to the candy bar designs.

I think you are right. Why do they feel the need to do this?

Isn't that how the keys on the RAZR are setup? If HTC is looking at making a copy of the RAZR, then I can fully understand why they did this.

Even with the lousy photo, I like this design. Can't wait for the high-res shots.

No the RAZR keys line up and are the same size. They just have nice curved lines in between them. :)

Finally a new clam shell smart phone!!!
It seemed like the smartphone makers only knew how to design candy bars for a while there.

The phone looks nice, but I hate the key pad. I hope they just stick on a standard square matrix type key pad on the final version.

I love everything about that phone and will buy it the first day it is available. If they added wifi and a detachable qwerty thumbpad, I could die a happy man with that as my final phone purchase ever.

I dig the exterior 'analog' clock too. I would definitely have bought a clamshell-style phone if there had been anything but the mpx220 available at the time...
