It appears that Cingular has let the cat out of the bag on the new upcoming Smartphone. If you check out Cingular's ringtone web site, you need to select your device before you can browse for ringtones and other content. In the list of devices, as you can see above, the HTC Tornado (Orange C600) is clearly listed. The other device not shown is the HTC Wizard. What I find most interesting about this, is that these devices are not branded as Audiovox, but HTC. Has Cingular decided to take the same approach as Orange, and brand the devices themselves?

I'm stoked! Could this mean that we will finally see a decent collection of Smartphones being offered by the U.S. carriers?
Looks like no wi-fi then if we assume it's the same as the C600. Bummer, though still a step forward. Let's hope it's out soon.

It does not yet show up on their compatible phones (http://www.cingular.com/media/media_phones) page yet though.

Sweet. Depending on release date, this phone will probably cause my switch to Cingular (from T-Mobile) and be my first Microsoft Smartphone. :D WiFi would be nice though...but how many smartphones have WiFi anyway?

If Cingular is using the same phone as Orange (i.e. C600) aka the Faraday variation of the Tornado, then we are looking at a device without Wi-Fi. Orange France has already released the C600 and it does not have Wi-Fi. If Cingular releases without Wifi, it looks like those of us that want it will need to pick up the Imate or Qtek instead.

At this point, I think that's pretty much a given. It doesn't look like Cingular will be offering WiFi. However, T-Mobile appears to be interested in offering it. This could be a major turning point for the carriers.

I wouldn't be so sure Cingular's version won't have WiFi...
