http://microsoftgadgets.com/sideshow.aspx

"Windows SideShow is a new platform in Microsoft Windows Vista that developers can use to write gadgets that extend their applications to a range of display devices. Some of the display devices will be integrated into computers; others will appear on peripheral devices. Examples of potential SideShow-compatible devices include: ... A mobile phone. Useful for remotely controlling applications, such as moving to the next slide or reading speaker notes in Microsoft PowerPoint on your device from across a room."

Gadgets are plug-ins that run inside the Windows Vista Sidebar and the auxiliary displays. While reading through the PDC 2005 news reports, I came across MicrosoftGadgets.com that is talking about how these gadgets will be able to run on mobile phones and extend the functionality of the application running on the desktop PC. Not much is known about the gadgets at this time and their capabilities on the mobile phones. We have seen third party applications that enable similar functionality, but it is good to see Microsoft trying to implement a standard interface for the design of such mobile applications. Wish the image with gadgets running on the Smartphone was a bigger one. :( The following screen-shot shows the Sidebar <!> that will be part of Windows Vista.

This image came from the Microsoft PDC 2005 image gallery. Wow... Gadgets on the Smartphone too? Very cool.

I've been really impressed with a lot of what I've seen coming out of the PDC this year. Acrylic and Sparkle are simply amazing. if you're a designer, I would highly recommend you watch the Sparkle video on Channel9.

They drop it and then put it back. Then maybe drop it and then....

But I love the latest build (5219). Lots of features that are being called people as eye-candy. Wish it had the Sidebar. I can bet that Google Desktop 2 forced Microsoft to re-introduce Sidebar. Waiting for the next build.

And of course I am yet to find anything cool related to mobile devices. :?
