What if you could cut through the crowd and find what you are looking for? What if you could share your story without saying a word? Create a short Profile consisting of a photo and greeting that you can switch whenever you want. As long as you leave 6th Sense running on the phone, it will alert and display the Profiles of those nearby. Think of the Profile as a "wearable website", your space to write whatever you'd like."</i><br /><br />6th Sense is a new free service that has just entered beta. It works on all Windows Mobile 2003 based devices (with Bluetooth) and those Symbian 60 Series things too. ;) If you're interested in meeting other people that have the same interests as you, it might be worth looking into.

I wonder if anyone has ever met anyone using one of these schemes. Remember the one with the pagers? When you got near somebody who had one they would both go off.

in the consumer market right now, chances are you are going to meet some really geeky person :P

The OS and knowlegde of this has to be more mainstream consumer friendly.. oh, if say for example, the iPod had BT implemented and could use this type of application I can see it being more popular. Right now, there is hardly anyone using these devices on a mainstream level in my opinion

In an environment in which we discuss hiding SSIDs, using WEP and WPA, MAC filtering and are still paranoid, I wonder about an app that broadcasts "Hey, here I am" willy nilly. Isn't that kind of like putting a sign on your back that says, hack me.

Yeah, the pager mentioned above was popular in Japan (called "Lovegety"). You can find a brief history of the idea on this blog (http://icppl.typepad.com/i_see_people/2005/07/a_brief_history.html).

The userbase will probably be small for awhile, but i can see how this could work in areas that are naturally more dense, like conferences, schools, etc. And I dont think running this app makes you a hacker target, I think its the same level of exposure as if you were using your bluetooth headset.

BTW, if someone here is from SF Bay Area, you may want to check out mobile monday (http://www.mobilemonday.com/). They actually used this app there.
