That's enough saying the first slide of the company presentation in Hanover showed Samsung i300, which tells about the model's significance for the company. The model combines a new wheel control, integrated 3GB hard drive, a QVGA screen. The model stands out of the general flow and is really innovative (that is impossible to say about the i600 and still unreleased i250). The company positions the device as the first world musical smartphone. The model will be launched only in October. ...The design is unusual for Samsung, that is the prevalence of strict lines and no smooth forms. The squreness of the body is stressed with a round joystick. The top and bottom planes are splay, and that's why when looking at the side of the device, it looks as an oblong parallelogram. The front elements echo the parallelogram's outline repeating its form."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20050716-MobileReviewSamsungi300.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br />October? That seems like such a long ways off. :(

Not good... They show a Windows Mobile 2003SE version only!? 8O What happened with Magneto for the i300.
At least the device I had (http://www.theunwired.net/photo/index.php?gallery=./Gadgets/Smartphones/Samsung%20SGH-I300) was running Magneto aka Windows Mobile 5.0 but I wasn't allowed to make screenshots because it was before the Magneto launch but photos only (http://www.theunwired.net/photo/index.php?gallery=./Gadgets/Smartphones/Samsung%20SGH-I300).
But back to the main question: where was Magneto lost? :? As nice as the divicie is, in October I'm not going with a Win 2003SE device anymore...

Good question. There has to be some sort of mistake. Since Microsoft featured this device in their WM5.0 launch, I can't imagine that it would ship without it. I wonder if the phone used in this article was an early model, pre Magneto.

Windows Mobile 5.0 or Bust!

I don't mind handing over a wad of money for a Smartphone with a hard drive (that's a true media player) but then give us a "two year old" operating system after it's successor has been released/announced? I don't think so.

I find the Bluetooth profile for a stereo headset quite promising. That's the only thing I feel that all portable stereo devices lack - wireless headsets.

$700 is a bit steep and the screen dimensions are a bit small, but all in all, if the camera gets fixed up, Windows Mobile 5 is standard, then there don't seem to be any major things keeping me from upgrading from my Audiovox SMT5600.

The display is just so dang small. It's a fine size for a cellphone or a music phone but for a Smartphone where you oftentimes have to spend 15 minutes working on something it's fatiguing.

And a 3 GB hard drive in the era of 2 gb SD cards? 4 GB sd cards will be available Q405. Unless they have a development path for the hard drive that is significantly in front of flash memory density I find it difficult to believe we'll see a lot of hard drive based music phones.

You know, that's an excellent point. I'm sure they could replace the hard disk with a SD card slot. Leaving people with both miniSD and SD. That should greatly reduce the price of the phone. Then people could pick up a 2 GB or more SD card and slap it in. This would allow a better upgrade path than a built in drive ever could. :)

I am excited by the processor! Wish regular Smartphones also start carrying them. Oh the possibilities.

I wonder how Mobile-Review.com managed to get hold of the phone. They got the early prototype and now the latest almost ready for launch version. Equally amazing is their access to the Samsung advertising campaign...

Looking at Samsung's marketing ads we'll see a girl with a guitar and Samsung i300 near her. The company targets the device at girls also; it's not only for men.

I was thinking the same thing. I thought I had read Microsoft announcing this Smartphone as the first WM 5.0 Smartphone or something like that.

And while looking at the screenshots. I was surprised that Samsung had it own launcher application. Which looks similar to WM 5.0's new iconized Start menu.

I find it hard to believe that the final version of this phone will be running WM2003SE.

Am I right in assuming that only WM5 contains HD support?
